Does anyone else use this?
I'm wondering if its worth getting just a desktop computer and using my TV as a monitor for plex downloads etc...
Currently I'm using plex on my Macbook and its annoying making sure the laptop is open for the server to be on. A desktop always being on seems like a better idea?

I've got a desktop computer a put together strictly to be an HTPC.
I run Kodi, basically the same as Plex.
Keep the thing on pretty much 24/7 and has been working like a charm for about 4 years.
It's nice to have a standalone unit hooked up to your TV....kind of a set it and forget it type deal.

I do! Well it's my roommate who set it up. He runs it off his Mac Mini and essentially uses it as a server. We run it on the house projector, and it's super convenient and easy to use. Plus I have it on the PS4 in my room so I can use it upstairs as well, and not just in the main living space. They also have Xbox One apps for it too if that's more your thing.Originally Posted by Yonald
One of the nicest features about Plex though, is the ability to use it elsewhere. If I'm ever gone somewhere for a longer period of time and have my laptop, I can access Plex and everything from the server through my laptop or phone (though the phone app cost me 5 bucks, one time but it was totally worth it).
