Who knows - maybe he takes the home town discount to stay in STL. He has been there for 10 years and has a strong desire to remain with STL.
one of those contracts that will look ugly real soon. trade him in cap leagues while you still can.Ian Mclaren
@iancmclarenOn NHL Network, @FriedgeHNIC says David Backes will likely command over $6M per year on open market.

(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
The quote says he will command $6M+.
It says nothing about what he's asking for. Command vs ask is two different things.

I'd love for him to stay in the Lou, just on a short term, that guy has some miles on his body.
Backes had a pretty strong playoff campaign. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get 6+
Given his numbers he does deserve that pricetag over the short-term. Be interesting to see where he lands and a good warning for capleague owners.
Backes' last chance to cash in...wouldn't be surprised to see a 4 year $6.25M thrown out there by someone....as Eskimo said, I'd pay that for 1-2 or two but he's going to see a sharp decline pretty soon as most power forwards do.
I'm looking to move him a soon as I can. Price will end up being way to high

I don't think we really know what will happen. We have certainly seen our fair share of guys lately willing to take longer term for less dollars (cap hit). That may be something Backes will be willing to do to stay in STL.
I have no doubt there will be teams more than willing to pay him $6m+, it comes down to what's more important to Backes. I guess we will find that out soon enough.

As a Blues fan I hope Backes is able to cash in big time. He is a great player and deserves to seek his max payday just like any of us would in the prime of our careers...surely he is smart enough not to discount himself that would be very foolish.

Last contract he’ll sign, I’d be avoiding him if I was an eastern team. I just see him as another Kesler kind of player minus the mind games. Defensive center, who chips in offensively and isn’t drowning in the talent he’s facing.
I’ve never really liked him, I was always iffy on him, and I think any team that signs him will overpay and the contract will be talked about as one of the bad ones signed this offseason.
