    Default Drafting 3rd, trade down?

I am absolutely not enclined to trade down at this point from 3rd overall (to, obtain, say, 7th, 12th and 23rd)... but I've got to use reason here and at least give it a thought. And I'd like to hear your opinions.

    What would you do?
H2H - 16 teams - Auction (225 $ cap), cap up to 300$ after auction on any drafted player.
    Keep 3, +7$ each year. Keep 5 farm (cost 1$ to dress).[/I]

    10 F 4 D 1 G 5 bench 10 farm

Personally, I would be keeping third overall and drafting Puljujarvi.. This of course would mean Matthews and Laine were drafted first and second..

With the way some people are flip-flopping about he top picks (even though it should be obvious) I'd just sit at 3rd and hope someone does something stupid. Otherwise be happy with Puljujarvi.

I rarely take quantity over quality.

Keep the 3rd if you're dealing for unknowns.

Keep the 3rd and draft one of Matthews, Laine or Puljujarvi.

You all solidly confirm my thoughts. Quality over quantity!

Absolutely agree with above. There is a drop after the top 3. If you had the 4th overall, I would definitely consider dropping down.

I get why this deal is tempting in terms of pure upside and any projections you see will likely make it look like a good deal on paper. The problem is Puljujarvi offers way more certainty and he'll be productive sooner. The lower picks (12 & 23) are more likely to get tangled up in your depth spots and maybe even dropped without having contributed anything to your team.

Before you make any decisions, you should at least listen to offers, just in case something comes up that benefits you. What are the needs of your team. Look at the offers, you don't have to accept.

Exactly this /\ but keeping the third pick won't hurt you. I actually like Puljujarvi better than Laine as I think Puljujarvi plays with more intensity, at least from the videos I have watched. If I was drafting third I would be hoping that Laine is taken second.

All depends on the offer, but staying at three is a win. JP is going to be a horse who can score 30 goals and 70 points in a few seasons.

Those type of players don't grow on trees.

There is no way to answer this.

Is this for the league in your sig? Did you win last year? Where did you rank? Did any certain category kill you at all this year?, etc.
