2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup Thread

This year's edition will get underway next weekend in Red Deer Alberta and we will see a new champion crowned. The host Rebels will be joined by the WHL champion Brandon Wheat Kings (who eliminated RD in the conference finals), the OHL champion London Knights and the QMJHL champion Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

Respective playoff MVP's to keep an eye on are Mitchell Marner (TOR), Francis Perron (OTT) and Nolan Patrick (2017).

Game one goes May 20th at 8ET between RD and LDN. Game two between BDN and ROU goes May 21st at 7ET. All games on Sportsnet.

Brendan Ross is super high on him, projecting he'll go wire-to-wire as the 1st overall ranked player for 2017.

Oh he's a beast. I've been loosely following his progression the last two years or so. I just haven't seen him play very often. By most accounts he's going to be an elite number one center, perhaps a franchise center. I'm not even sure who the contenders for #1 in 2017 would be at this point in time, I think there's that Swedish dman Liljegren but haven't a clue. Canadian center vs Swedish dman seems to be a growing trend at the top of the NHL draft these days.

Really looking forward to seeing Brandon and Rouyn play. Have followed them closely, especially Brandon, but just haven't been able to see them play due to locations. Can never count out the hosts either. Any 2 of these teams could easily be in the finals. Should be a good tourney. Im gonna say Brandon takes it over Red Deer in the finals here.

seen Nolan Patrick a couple times he's far too good and too big for his age, I think he'd get consideration for #1 this year if he was eligible. Not just saying that off my limited viewings ive heard much smarter people then me bring it up.
1 thing that bugs me tho, he does the Patty Kane mouth-guard chewing while playing thing, sometimes even when he's in a dangerous area on the ice...that guard is there for a reason kid please use it.
