Yes me too. This is like a " show me MORE" type of deal and see what happens with another 82 games then re-evaluate him. I suppose.

$3.5m is the amount on his 1-year.

He’s an RFA after this yr still, that played a big part. If it was longer, he’d be a UFA at the end

Both sides were probably happy with the result too.

    Good contract.

Nothing wrong with the contract although I am not really sure what else they are expecting Gudbranson to show them. He is what he is. I dont think he has much more to offer different than what he's already been doing.

Probably but after five seasons in the NHL, and with only one of them cracking the 10 point mark, I dont know what else they think he has to offer.

Either way, it's a standard deal, cap wise.

I was going to say the same thing, but maybe they want to see if he can KEEP doing what he is doing. I know 1 extra year won't determine the next 5-6 years but if you can afford to get an extra ''test period'' in, why not. Gudbranson on the other end probably knows that this ''bridge contract'' would mean he will get back his $$$ if he can prove his worth for one more year. If I recall, they had drafted him in hopes of his wearing the C down the road for them. I am not too familiar with what he brings to the team off the ice or behind closed doors, but he seems like the type of guy that is respected by his teammates and that can stand up for his team.

It's risk free for Gudbranson. I feel like he wont get worse next year.

Probably just hoping they can show FLA mgmt. that he is like Brooks Orpik ("character" and "tough" dman who does not produce points) and deserves a ridiculous contract like Orpik or Girardi.
