Default If you had to trade one RFA??

So I'm in a salary cap/points only league and I want to maybe move one of my rfa's to save some dough and upgrade my defense or goaltending.

    The options are

    S Monahan

    N MacKinnon

    J Schwartz

Who will get the most $$$. Who has the best chance of being a big producer?

Personally I'm trading Monahan. As a top line centre, he will get the same amount as MacK, and more than Schwartz, while having a lower ceiling. His stats without Johnny Hockey on his wing are also very worrying. If you can get a much better return for a fan of one of the other two though, then it might be worth going for.

Don't really know how much you can be upgrading your goaltending at this point, but compared to the rest of your roster, I agree D is what needs addressing.

I think Mack will get the most money and will probably produce the most, although I'm not sure by how much or if it will justify keeping him. I still see MacK being a top 10 point producer in his prime, maybe challenge for a scoring title a couple of times like a Getzlaf or Giroux would.

I think which player you trade has a lot to do with which d-man you might target. Would rank them as follows: MacKinnon, Monahan, Schwartz. I'd like to keep all three if I could, but I'd also be open to a trade if the right deal came along to improve my D.

I'm thinking of moving Monahan and a 2nd Rd pick to get Ghostbear.

The ghost owner might be willing to move him. He may also want Schwartz instead.
Is Schwartz and a 2nd too much for ghostbear. Remember that I'm in a cap league and ghostbear is only $1.4aav

In a points only league, I'd try Schwartz/Monahan straight up for Gostisbehere. I think a small league like yours, the 2nd round pick is pretty valuable.
10 Team, Points Only, Cash League

25 Man Roster (no position), top 20 point getters count at end of month
Keep 20/25 at seasons end, Cut 5 to FA for redrafting
    Goalie points W=2pt L=-1pt SHO=2pt

Stamkos, Tavares, Eichel, Mercer, JRobertson, RThomas, Kucherov, Nugent-Hopkins, Tuch, KConnor, Necas, Point, Konecny, SJarvis, Cozenz, Morrissey, Bouchard, Josi, Novak, Tolvanen, Peterka, Brink

I'm sure he would accept instantly. The issue however is, in my league it's all about how many 55-65pt forwards you have, combined with how many 40+ pt Dmen you have. So replacing a legit 60+ points forward (JD or SM) in the late 2nd Rd is nearly impossible. Even if you're willing to spend $$$. But getting a 40+ point D is doable if you fork out $5m bucks. Ekman Larsson is available in my league, as well as Ekholm and Vlasic. One of those three will be there in the 2nd Rd.

This is why you have to acquire cheap D through trade. They're such a hot commodity in my league. But not worth 2 60pt forwards, straight up

How about Schwartz and Ellis. Do you think that could get it done. He's high on Ellis and his $2.5m cap hit

If they will do Ghost for Schwartz & Ellis, hit accept. You have good depth at forward and you should be able to at least find a 50 pt F to replace him in this size of league. A D with 50 pt upside is hard to find - Ghost will be running Phi PP for years to come.

This is really tough for me as I am a big fan of Schwartz Monahan and Mackinnon.. I actually see big things for all of them..

But getting Ghost for one of these triplets would be nice too..

Definitely does sound like Ghost is worth the trade here. I stick by my earlier ranking:

    MacK
    Schwartz
    Monahan

If you can get him for either of the bottom two, I would probably go for it.
