What is considered standard scoring?? N
Hey everyone, now that my fantasy season is over, I feel empty inside and am already looking forward to draft day next season lol. Just for fun: in a standard scoring H2H 1 year league who would you see being the top 10 draft picks next season as of right now? Ovie, Sid or Kane #1?... Where does Mcdavid fit in? Curious as to what everyone thinks. Hope everyone had a great season and time to start prepping for next year!
What is considered standard scoring?? N
Wasn't being a jerk.....just I know a lot of leagues are moving from PIM to hits, and that would make Ovie #1 for me. Top of my head I still go.....
Ovie
Crosby
Benn
Kane
McDavid
That's my top 5......10 is a lot muddier because you get into Karlsson questions and whether or not Price is healthy but I'll give it a go.
Seguin
Stamkos
Tavares
Malkin
Price
Ummmmm Erik Karlsson? He's definitely a top 10 pick in fantasy, don't overlook him.
I too like the top three of OV, Crosby, Benn.
Those are three very steady picks, I think they are all top 6 or top 7 right now.
I think Karlsson has to be considered up there... there's a pretty big drop-off in D talent after about 8-10 guys.
1. OV
2. Crosby
3. Benn
...
4. Seguin (and he may slide because Yahoo doesn't pro-rate shortened-season stats)
5. McDavid (yes, this high already)
6. Karlsson
7. Tavares (I still have faith he is an elite player)
8. Pat Kane
...
This is around where the drop-off starts...
...
After that, there's a bunch which will depend on positional eligibility:
9/10. Pavelski (he's top ten now for THIRD straight year), Giroux, Tarasenko, Burns/Letang/Subban/Buff... Holtby (depending on how a league values a goalie - it's hard in H2H).
One way to look at it is to check the pre-season ranks and see who's underperformed, been injured etc.
Agree on Karlsson - he's there. He was #13 on the pre-season list and with the season he's had, it should be an automatic. But you never know with Yahoo...
No doubt McDavid will be up there, or if not in the top 10, very close to it.
Malkin is out. He was #9 this season and with his injury they can't put him back in the top 10.
Agree with Peng about Pavelski - he's earned his place in the top 10.
Giroux could be borderline as he was #8 this year, but the name value might keep him in it.
I'll take a stab at it:
1. Ovechkin
2/3. Crosby/Benn - I could see either one here but as Crosby was #2 this year, I'm not sure they'd drop him yet.
4. Karlsson
5. Kane (may swap with Karlsson)
6. Seguin (injury would normally hurt but others around this point last year struggled or got injured)
7. Tavares (stronger late season run is helping his cause)
8. Pavelski
9. Holtby (the number of wins will bump him up into the mix)
10. Tarasenko (two straight top 10 production)
Just outside looking in: Giroux, Burns (can't see 2 D in top 10, even though he's earned it), McDavid (potential alone not enough to put him top 10)
EDIT: Having another look and I wonder how much this season's actual production rankings affect their order next year, for goalies in particular. Holtby is actually the 4th ranked goalie (Bishop, Quick, Crawford). Quick even had a higher pre-rank than Holtby this year, so I wonder if he'll stay ahead? Don't forget shutouts are part of the ranking as well, and Quick beat him 5-3 (could be the reason he's ahead? But behind in other three categories so who knows). We'll see.
EDIT2: Just realised that my rankings are predicting the Yahoo ranks for next year, rather than what is the consensus top 10.
Any top 10 has to include McDavid. His 1.09 points per game rate is just a hair behind Benn (1.10) and better than all other names on this list besides Kane. And this is just his rookie season...
Doesn't matter if other players fill the peripheral stats too. Don't miss out on a very legit top 3 scorer for next year in your top 10.

Burns/Karlsson I'd take Burns first because of dual eligibility and higher shot volume, all other categories are very close in total
McDavid
Seguin

Holtby
Pavelski
I as a rule refuse to take goalies in the 1st round in head-to-head, Dmen to but Karlsson is an exception.

1. Ovy
2. Crosby
3. Benn
4. Seguin
5. Tavares
6. Karlsson
7. P. Kane
8. McDavid
9. Giroux
10. Malkin
11. Stamkos- huge question marks due to injury and UFA landing spot could be #8-20 when the dust settles.
12. Pavelski/Tarasenko.
