San Jose Sharks training camp roster
Tomas Plihal and Alex Semenov appear on the roster and not as tryout invitees, so they must have been signed.
Also in camp for the first time will be college graduate and 2004 draftee C Steven Zalewski (21+12+34 in 38 NCAA games with Clarkson; 2+4+0 in 7 AHL games with Worcester). However, college graduates D David MacDonald and D Brian O\'Hanley, who were signed last year, aren\'t.
C Cory Larose, RW Matt Jones, RW Ryan Vesce, D Brendan Buckley and D Mike Moore are under the radar 08 FA signings, Jones and Moore out of college and the others out of Europe. Vesce\'s probably the most interesting of them.
Groulx, Demers and Demers are the only 08 draftees in camp.
Plenty of players on try out:
LW Jonathan Boneau (12+12+48 in 68 QMJHL games with Victoriaville as an 18 yr old)
LW Jeff Friesen
C Matt Fornataro (18+28+44 in 38 NCAA games with New Hampshire)
C Mathieu Tousignant (8+14+61 in 27 QMJHL games with PEI)
RW Rick Cleaver (31+19+16 in 28 NCAA games with Norwich)
RW Zach Harnden (23+17+51 in 65 OHL games with Peterborough)
RW Matthew Pistilli (37+56+51 in 63 QMJHL games with Gatineau)
RW Tyler Shattock (9+14+45 in 48 WHL games with Kamloops)
D Adam Leblanc-Bourque (8+29+106 in 67 QMJHL games with Shawinigan)
D Joe Rulier (1+6+58 in 20 AHL games with Bridgeport)
D Brett Westgrath (2+3+89 in 37 AHL games with Iowa)
D Michael Wilson (6+41+28 in 64 WHL games with Swift Current)
G Kyle Jones (1.09 GAA with 10 shutout in 25 games with St. Norbert of the NCAA).
Fornataro (6\'00\'\'/190), Cleaver (6\'00\'\'/190), Pistilli (6\'2\'\'/220), Wilson (6\'1\'\'/160) and Jones stand out with their numbers, however, Cleaver and Jones have done it in Div-III NCAA hockey.
Fornataro\'s had a second consecutive point per game season, but as a much older player (he is now 23). In the USHL before college he was considered more of an agitator type, so his numbers suggest a late bloomer.
Pistilli had a breakout season as an overager last year, though he wasn\'t far from a point per game pace the year before. He turns 21 in October 2009, so I am not sure whether or not he is still draft eligible in 2009. He\'s got the size, too so he is very intriguing. I would guess that if a guy with his size and numbers wasn\'t drafted, there have to be skating issues, but I don\'t know.
