Johansen for Letang?
My keeper league allows us to keep 6: 3 F, 2 D, 1 G. Every year that we keep a player, he moves up a spot in the draft. So if I selected E. Kane in the 8th round last year, he counts as my 7th pick if I keep him. I can't keep any player who was a 1st-round pick. My current roster is in the signature (team 1). The strategy is to get good players as late picks so you can keep them for years. A Kesler in the 15th round is likely more valuable as a keeper than Giroux in the 2nd.
Currently, I'm set for keepers in goal (Crawford [will be my 13th pick next year]) and D (Karlsson [11th pick] and Letang [10th pick]). My keeper forwards need upgrading, but I'm in contention this year, sitting in 2nd.
Another manager is offering me his Ryan Johansen for my Letang. That would set me up for the future, giving me Ehlers (14th pick), Johansen (17th) and Lee/Horvat (18th) as late-round keepers. I'd also be fine at D because I have Karlsson and can keep Gostisbehere as my 19th overall pick (yes please).
My concern is whether that hurts my chances of competing this year. Letang has been absolutely on fire under Sullivan. But if I don't trade him, I likely will let him go for nothing in the off season, and Johansen helps my forward keepers significantly.
Any thoughts on what I should do?
