The rebuild has begun

Tried to make a run at the top spot and things were looking good to start..all the way to the new year. Then my team came crashing down to earth and the universe turned right again. I started the new year in 2nd with shot stints in 1st..now I have crashed to 5th and no bottom in site.

CUE THE REBUILD!!

I sent Rinne EStaal and Myers for Lack Schwartz and RStrome. Looking to move anybody over 30 for sure. Let's see what happens..I've never done a rebuild before so this should be exciting.

I have been in a perpetual rebuild, and only this year have started to grab slightly older, but serviceable veterans to start putting up points. I won't compete this year, but may be in the hunt next year if the many young guys I have start scoring like some of the more consistent vets that I have recently picked up (Simmonds, Hornqvist).

Like The Bottlenecker, I always appear to be constantly rebuilding except for a few recent years of finishes in the top 4 (with no 1st place finishes). My near-the-top finishes happened after I traded prospects/picks for top end older players. Now I am back at the bottom and nobody in my keeper league ever wants to trade a prospect for an older player who can help now; nor a prospect for a couple of top end older players. Many of the GMs in my league feel that it is better to finish 3rd or 4th than to lose a prospect. I hope you have better luck in your league and have managers who want to win every year because if you do the trades will be easier than what I have managed to accomplish.

I have since traded Ericksson and Bergeron for a package and a mid round first, as well as Cammalleri, Krejci and Miller for another package that includes Talbot.

I don't know if all of these trades were ideal but they got me turned 180 degrees from where i was only a week ago.

Even if your rebuilding i would assume you still have to get a fair price back.......didnt like the burns trade for you, but it def made you younger and the kids have the potential. just wish u got some picks in there too

This is so important because it's not tearing it down that matters... it's building it back up. The better you do in trades the more assets you have on the other side. Plus I'm not a fan of getting younger just for the sake of it.

Agreed. you also got killed on the steen trade. It sounds like you had good players. As long as you didnt scream from the mountain tops that you were rebuilding then you should been in the drivers seat to win each and every one of those trades. You had all the chips......should have taken those guys for more

I have the most fun when I'm in a rebuild, a word of advice ,it takes patience that you would not believe, and the goal needs to be a champion , not just a good team or even a very good team, you need to be the youngest AND the best to create at least BACK TO BACK championships ,I did it in 2008-09 and won both years without a player over 25 years old, I started my last rebuild 3 years ago and my team now is in my signature.
I'm going to make a run this year and just to speed it up I traded for Elliott and picked up Eriksson on waivers , good luck, have fun, build a powerhouse !!!!!!
