Pietrangelo just got placed on IR. But I would prefer Giordano regardless.
Welcome to the forums.
Hi guys,
I am in a keeper league - points only, currently sitting in 5/8 (74 points back). Doubt I get even close to top 3 finish this year... and my top D is Mark Giordano.
Another GM is offering Alex Pietrangelo straight up for Giordano.
gio = 32 years old
Pietrangelo = 26 years old
The more I think about it, the more I don't think its a good deal (the PPG is what troubles me a little)
What do you think? Should I do this? or the risk is not worth it?
Cheers,
LP

Welcome to the forums.
Go with your gut on this one, I don't see Pietrangelo reaching Gio's point production totals over the next couple of years. That said, Gio turned an abysmal year around over the past couple of months. I'm of the opinion he's got another 2 years in him before there is a noticeable slide that he drops to Pietrangelo's production level.
To me, Pietrangelo is another player that is better in real life than in the fantasy world. I would reject.

This is tricky. You don't think you're a contender this year, so the soonest you'll be in the mix is next year when Giordano is 33.
Pietrangelo has pedigree as a reliable 50 point D but he's seen a dip in production the last 2 years while Shattenkirk has emerged as the main offensive weapon on the Blues D.
The biggest challenge is getting an accurate read on Pietrangelo - will he bounce back? Is Shatty in St. Louis long-term? If not, how does that effect Pietrangelo?
Here's the thing though - Giordano will outscore Pietrangelo for another 2 years or so IMO. So, even if you want to concede the season and gain age, your asking price should be Pietrangelo + IMO.
I wouldn't endorse a 1 for 1 swap. If the other GM wants Gio, he's probably making a run and he needs to pay up for it. Pietrangelo and some solid sweetener for sure. If not, hold on to Giordano.

I would keep Giordano. Can't see Pietrangelo as a likely upgrade. Maybe Pietrangelo in 3-4 years, once Gio is out to pasture....
