As a Hellebuyck owner, I take Nilsson. Simply, Hellebuyck is going back to the AHL, when Pavelec returns. Next year is a whole other storey. Hutch is a UFA, Pavs has one year left on his contract. The writing is on the wall.

look the jets expect to be a playoff team, with pavelec out until february the job of ensuring that happens comes down to helly vs hutch
if helly or hutch fail then who cares as the Jets will 100% not be a playoff team as it will be too late come mid-feb to change their fortunes, if however they're playoff team it will be because of one of these two goalies and no chance the jets dump helly back to the AHL if its him that keeps that team afloat
i roll the dice on helly and hope he keeps/makes the jets a playoff team and thus sticks around as their #1

Everyone who has said so is correct that Nilsson has more job security over the long term.
That being said, I wouldn't be worrying about that overmuch. Hellebuyck will likely help you win more games than Nilsson over the short term. If it looks like he'll be sent back down (which is without question likely, but you never know), then you can worry about that when the time comes.

I would gamble and go with Helle. He could potentially take the #1 job in the Peg.
