I wouldn't be trading Duchene for Zib+Cowen, especially now that he's playing well. This isn't some hot streak from a plug, it is really how Duchene was expected to play for the past 1.5 years. Everyone has struggles now and then. Now if I am the senators and I can get him for Cowen + I am all over that

While I like him as a player I think Lazar would be a good chip. Colin White will be better so I don't think the Sens need him terribly. They will have a logjam at C next year and beyond. That being said I don't know what they'd have to add with Lazar to get Duchene.
I'd trade Wiercioch first but I'd have to think hard if they wanted Ceci. Our RD is thinner than LD, even though Wideman has potential. Wiercioch will be replaced soon by Chabot. Tough calls but the Sens definitely have the pieces to go for it.

Cowen has actually been pretty good this year. He's really turned it around this year compared to last year.

While I don't care who is traded out of either of those two, Wiercioch has been worse this season. And before I get bombarded with advanced stats, if that is what you or somebody else was going to do, I don't care.
I'd rather have Cowen but both are expendable as both are going to be bottom pair going forward. Cowen has more value on the open market because teams will always value big physical blueliners with pedigree.

I was talking in a career sense, not an advanced stats one. I'm not ready to change my opinion on either player based on 16 games this season, when there's over 150 games on each that formed my previous opinion.

Well I'm not ready to change either because I, and the team, have always viewed Cowen higher. i don't think Wiercioch has been great outside of the second half of last season..but whatever like I said, it doesn't matter to me who gets dealt if they do get dealt.

You could be right.
On the other hand, he may have some problems with the room or with the organization or whatever and they may feel they need to move him before he loses value as an asset.

I would say, in this case, any issues with Duchene stem from the organization, not from Duchene. It's pretty well documented that he's been a lifelong Avs fan and they're the only team he's ever wanted to play for.
