Berra this year, as who knows when Varlamov will find his game.

Coin flip long term, difficult to say without knowing where Raanta will be next year.

If you are on a competitive team, I'd go for Berra.

Raanta this year and beyond. Sure, he plays behind the King but he also plays on a solid Rangers team. I can see him getting close to the same amount of work as Berra and should be with better results at that.

Raanta is UFA after this year; not sure he's gets re-signed in NY.

And given the way Varlamov has played, I think Berra has a chance at getting more starts than Raanta.

If Raanta continues to show he is capable in NY, I can't see why he doesn't get re-signed. My issue with Berra, especially if Varly is hurting, they have shown in the past that they are more willing to give the starts to Pickard once he gets recalled over Berra in the past.

Fair points. I'd counter with this: Talbot seemed more than capable last year...and NY let him walk. With Raanta being a UFA, it wouldn't surprise me if he priced himself out of the backup role in NYR. Certainly not an easy call between these two options.

This was my thinking as well. But I already have Lundy.
