    Default Jhonas Enroth Future

This year he is going to be Quick's backup and maybe play 10-15 games max seeing as how Quick played 70+ last season. Going forward, is he doomed to a life of NHL backup or does anyone have reason to believe he can take up a starter's role somewhere

Cam Talbot strung together two years of solid back-up numbers and got himself a starting gig.
Any NHL back-up can pull it off... but odds are probably 1/15 of being a "Talbot".
Two back-up emerge to be NHL staters every year. Martin Jones is another who made the leap after two solid years in LA.
The year before, it was Scrivens - who had his chance and failed... and Dubnyk - who had his chance and succeeded.

The odds are that he's in the 14 of 15 back-ups doomed to remain back-ups.
It's often the back-ups on good teams that do emerge, so he's got that going for him.
He'll need a Quick injury though to get enough "show-time" to make a case for himself.

8% odds of being #1 starter somewhere next year.

The only way he gets a chance at being a started is if he gets a decent amount of games this year (say 20-25) and does well. And with him in LA where Quick is a true workhorse, something serious has to happen to Quick (like Space Jam where the players lose all of their talent) or a serious injury for him to get this many games.

I don't think there's a good chance. He's not going to get many games in LA

Just to combat the pessimism, Quick's understudies have all been starters elsewhere.

Bernier/Scrivens/Jones all earned their starter spots (though at least one of those three clearly didn't have the talent to keep it).

Enroth has the talent to start but his height is an extra obstacle to overcome. He's not exactly a perfect example of the 6'6" 187 lb goalie that's in vogue right now. I think Enroth would have to Tim Thomas his way into a permanent starter's job and that's not an easy thing to do.

I wouldn't count on it....too many potential young starters clambering to get into the league that teams would be more likely to go for.
