Default Valuing categories in roto leagues

LeMatt, I\'ll definite concede that the whole \"you can recover assists off the waiver wire\" thing is a red herring. But with PIM it\'s definitely true. There must be a way to quantify that effect in all the categories.

And dearyou, I totally agree that one\'s judgement is key to drafting well. But how to value different positions against each other is a key issue in fantasy hockey, so I\'m very curious to see what tools can be used to analyze their relative merits. By looking \"above the bar\" at the standardized stats, I think I\'ve learned a lot about the value of the different positions and I think the method I\'ve used is statistically defensible. This is the whole point, isn\'t it?

Your guys\' contribution was integral to my understanding of this whole puzzle. That\'s super key, and I thank you for it. Karma.

I\'ve finally updated my little model to compare against the standard deviations of the whole player pool. As a parting nod, here is the ranking for skaters my interpretation of JHM\'s \"above the bar\" method provides for a 4C, 4LW, 4RW, 6D, 2BN roto league that scores G, A, P, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, SOG. This whole exercise was really interesting to me, and I hope it was useful for others too if for nothing else than the thought exercise. To those not-so-nerds who zoned out early, I totally feel your pain.

    30. Niedermayer

The finding that strikes me as the most significant is that in this top-30, there are 10 D, 8 RW, 7LW, and only 5 C. That tells me that there are only a few elite centres in a roto league, whereas the wings are actually deeper. You can still recover points with a C, but...

Thanks again for helping me develop what I know.

I\'ve done the roto-valuing based on last years final results and Dobber\'s projections. For the most part, the peripheral stats are based on weighted past performance (shots/g * projected goals = shots, etc).

And yeah, the list goes on and on.

Where I find it useful is adjusting the values to the size and configuration for the league.

If you want the list configured for your league, let me know the league details (number of GM\'s, positions, categories) and your email address and I\'ll fire it off to you.

Not doing it for the karma! Doing it because this board has been extremely helpful to me and I just gotta pay it back.

It should be in your inbox.
