In Boston's "bad year" last year, here is Rask's stat line:
34 Wins, 2.30 GAA, 1855 Saves, .922 Sv%
Fleury's stats last year:
34 Wins, 2.32 GAA, 1685 Saves, .920 Sv%
Rask was the more valuable goalie, despite Boston missing playoffs. Rask was also the more valuable goalie, despite it being the worst stats he has posted in the last 4 years. Rask was also the more valuable goalie, despite Fleury posting the best GAA/Sv%/Saves combination he has posted in the past 11 years (aka. his entire career).
What I'm saying is one goalie had a team that didn't make the playoffs and he had a down-year stats wise, and still outperformed the goalie who had one of the best years of his career on a team that made playoffs. Everyone is making way too much of Boston's changes when it comes to Rask, IMO.
The only way I am going Fleury this year is if you think he will start close to 70 games, and you think Rask will not. An argument could be made for that, but I'm banking on the more talented goalie in Rask.
But as I said in my initial post (perhaps contrary to what this post says), I do think it is very close.
Huge 'second' on this. I'd take Rask, but both are great goalies.
