Ovechkin or Kessel

Interesting. Maybe I over-thought this. I really thought there would be some Kessel love out there. I have Kessel for six more points than Ovechkin this season (86 vs. 80) and figured maybe some would be enterprising enough to project him for more than that. Say a 10-15 point difference with Kessel coming in for 90-95 points.

I'm not sure a six-point difference is enough to make up the gap in SOG and PIM but I figured the conversation was worth having. I'm seeing Ovechkin ranked #1 in this sort of format and I think that might be a stretch.

Who do you see as more valuable in this setup? I'd project Ovechkin to basically do what he did last year across the board. Given Ovechkin's ability to post huge G, PPP, SOG and PIM numbers I think it would take a 95+ point season from Crosby and 90+ from Tavares/Seguin to be more valuable than Ovechkin in that setup.

I think this ends up being pretty close, but it would be hard to pass up Ovechkin.

Actually not. In a league with these stats, Ovechkin is the clear first overall pick. He should win every poll X-0

If Ovechkin is a 10/10 player in this league and Kessel a 9/10 player, and everyone believes this, then Ovechkin will win the poll unanimously. This is not a reflection on Kessel's ability or what people think of him.

I've got Crosby for 100 points this season and Tavares for 90, with Ovechkin in for 80 - so the same as last season, basically - so you can see where the discrepancy lies for me.

TBH I still don't think Kessel outscores Ovechkin (assuming you mean goals) even with Crosby dishing him. Kessel has never even hit 40 goals; he's likely going to snag 40-45 with Crosby. Remember Crosby likes to score too (last year was a fluke). The only think that might tip it in Kessel's favor is if Backstrom has a setback and doesn't come back a few months into the season (which would hurt Ovie)

sorry i meant points, kessel should easily beat Ovy in assists and i dont think ovy will score that many more goals than kessel.

Kessel's Stats:
50G, 45A, +30, 35 PPP, 30 PIM, 380 SOG.

I have him ranked about 4th FW off the board. A huge steal for something picking in the backend of a draft.

Yeah, I'd still take Ovechkin.
