Many of us have been lobbying for Yahoo! to trim down their player position eligibility over last few years.
Below is a list of dual or triple eligibility players from Yahoo!s 2014-2015 Fantasy Hockey Database.
Proposed... is each player's SINGLE eligibility position for the Yahoo! 2015-2016 Fantasy Hockey Season.

Team-by-team (based on Team prior to July 1st):
Justifications based on most common linemates & line combinations and player's FOW total (via starting a shift as face-off center).

    Anaheim:
LW - Andrew Cogliano ANA (not C) [ANA LW2/LW3. Primary off-wings were Silfv(RW) or Palmieri(RW)]
C - Ryan Kesler ANA (not RW) [ANA C2. 937 FOW.]
C - Chris Wagner ANA (not RW) [ANA C4/C5. Wagner had 33 FOW in 9 games, playing most spot C4 when one of Thompson/Rakell were out]
RW - Jakob Silfverberg ANA (not LW) [ANA RW2, playing reg season with off-wing of Cogliano (LW). Played most of playoffs with Beleskey(LW) and Kesler(C)]
LW - Tomas Fleischmann ANA (not RW) [ANA LW2/LW3. Played most commonly with Silfv(RW) or Palmieri(RW).]
LW - Emerson Etem ANA (not RW) [ANA LW4 in regular season with Jackman(RW) or Sekac(RW) on off-wing. Thompson or Rakell at center.]

    Arizona:
RW - Sam Gagner ARI (not C) [ARI RW2, if all Arizona healthy. Can play C and had 361 FOW. But Arizona will have C1-Hanzal, C2-Arcobello, C3-Chipchura, C4-Vitale to start year until injury.]
RW - Tobias Rieder ARI (not C) [ARI RW2/RW3, though he did play RW1 with Boedker (LW) out, shifting Doan to LW1 w/Vermette(C).]
C - Kyle Chipchura ARI (not RW) [ARI C3. 473 FOW]
RW - Shane Doan ARI (not LW) [ARI RW1 with Boedker (LW) healthy. Most common linemates were Boedker(LW) and Vermette(C).]

In general, dual eligibility can give an increased value to a player in fantasy hockey.
Especially in daily leagues, the option of having two (or three) slots to place a player allows for bench players to be inserted in line-ups more often.
Roster allocation can create conditions where a 3-position player like Joe Pavelski (C/LW/RW) can have much, much more fantasy value than a 1-position player like Ryan Getzlaf (C).

    re: LW/RW dual players.
There are many players in the NHL that can (& do) play either wing.
Guys like Shane Doan, James Neal, Filip Forsberg, Thomas Vanek, and Nick Foligno can easily play either wing.
Again - one position allocation is key to fairly comparing their value to single position wingers.
A singular position should be chosen - using some set methodology - but giving a player dual position even if he played 50% at each wing is detrimental to putting all players on a level field for comparison/selection.

    re: C/W dual players.
With FOW being a common statistical category, there is positive AND negative effects of assigning a player with either DUAL or SINGLE eligibility.

If the average drafted center wins 700 FOW in a season, then Steven Stamkos-C winning only 469 FOW (splitting face-off duty with Filppula), has a lowered value as a Center taking sub-average FOW.
If the average drafted right wing wins 20 FOW in a season, then Steven Stamkos-RW winning only 469 FOW (splitting face-off duty with Filppula), has an incredibly elevated value as a RW taking well-above-average FOW.
And with dual eligibility, Steven Stamkos C/RW, winning FOW from the RW, may exceed the value of a winger (Ovechkin) that does not win face-offs.
Dual-eligibility skews intrinsic player value in fantasy hockey.

Two potential manners for fantasy websites (ex. Yahoo!) to minimize value-swings:
    1. SIMPLE: In pools counting FOW, only players rostered in a center slot shall be eligible to "count" FOW. (This would be similar to how football kickers might not get fantasy points for scoring a TD [on a fake FG or XP attempt].)
    2. DIFFICULT: Allow commissioners the option to set player eligibility.

As a general opinion for distribution of forward positions:
In a fantasy hockey league, there should be approximately the same number of LW, C, and RW.
The best way to achieve fairness and not have skewed player value is to assign each player ONE singular position to start each season.
Each NHL team should have about the same LW, C, and RW listed in the database (and then there's many prospects listed - not as critical)

There are a few cases where guys like Stamkos/Filppula typically split center duties.
So the three players on TB line 1 might come in as:
    LW: Killorn
    C: Stamkos
    C: Filppula
But that's the rare case where a physical NHL line would not have a LW, C, and RW represented in the player positions.

Most NHL lines should contain a LW/C/RW.
For example, San Jose's top line is:
    LW: M.Karlsson
    C: Thornton
    RW: Pavelski

Like Filppula, Pavelski really splits the duties with Thornton as face-offs go.
So why would Filppula AND Stamkos be listed as C -only...
While Thornton AND Pavelski be listed as C & RW...
Or while Seguin AND Benn be listed as C & LW...
The difference between Filppula & Pavelski & Benn, I'd say, is that Filppula has long been considered a C in league... and keeper leagues.
And Pavelski has long been considered a RW in leagues... and keeper leagues.
And Benn has long been considered a LW in leagues... and keeper leagues.
And maybe those players should keep their "Traditional" primary position as their SINGLE Position.

All this said, many players like Backes, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Giroux have been playing primarily center for years... and their wing-eligibility is not justified.
Wingers like Patrick Kane and Martin St.Louis and Taylor Hall have been primarily wingers for their careers... and their center-eligibility (from a spot month or two playing center) is not justified.

These dual-eligibilities need to be corrected back to singular positions so we can get back to fairly comparing & valuing fantasy hockey players.

Discussion on positional eligibility of those changing teams.

    to Arizona:
    C - Antoine Vermette CHI (not LW) [ARI/CHI center - 872 FOW in 82gp.]
For New Team: C-Vermette. He played C with Arizona before. He'll play there again. C1/C2 will be Vermette/Hanzal as Arcobello gone. C3/C4 Chipchura/Vitale

    to Arizona:
RW - Steve Downie PIT (not LW) [PIT RW3. Most commonly with Sutter-C3 and B.Bennet-LW3.]
For New Team: RW-Downie. Reider made slide up to Gagners-RW, with Downie becoming RW3.

    to Anaheim:
LW - Shawn Horcoff DAL (not C) [DAL LW3, if all healthy. Will play spot C if any C injured. Only 237 FOW in 76gp.]
For New Team: LW-Horcoff. Anaheim seems set at C with Getzlaf, Kesler, Rakell, Thompson. They need to replace Beleskey & Palmieri, which means Horcoff likely to be a winger.

    to Calgary:
RW - Michael Frolik WPG (not C) [WPG RW2. Closed season with Ladd-LW2 and Little-C2.]
For New Team: RW-Frolik. He hasn't played much C and CGY recently re-signed Backlund. Frolik probably takes over RW2 from David Jones.

    to Chicago:
LW - Artem Anisimov COB (not C) [CBJ LW2/LW3. Most common linemates were Dubinsky-C and Foligno-RW]
For New Team: C-Anisimov. Sounds like Chicago intends for Anisimov to be their C2 for future years.

RW - Marko Dano COB (not C) [CBJ RW3. Most common linemates were Wennberg-C and Hartnell-LW.]
For New Team: RW-Dano. Very likely to be used at wing.

    to Colorado:
LW - Carl Soderberg BOS (not C) [BOS LW3. Plays w/Eriksson(RW) and Kelly(C) when healthy Bruins line-up. Will play C if Bergeron/Krejci/Kelly out.]
For New Team: ???-Soderberg. With ROR departed, COL could either put Soderberg at C2... or make the transition to get MacKinnon there. TBD.

    to Colorado:
RW - Blake Comeau PIT (not LW) [PIT RW1/RW2. Most commonly RW2 with Malkin-C2 and Kunitz-LW2.]
For New Team: RW-Comeau. If it's MacKinnon they push to C2, then RW opens up.

    to Columbus:
LW - Brandon Saad CHI (not RW) [CHI LW1 playing w/Toews-C and Hossa-RW for most of season.]
For New Team: LW-Saad. It's possible they might flip him to RW, but likely to start where he is most comfortable: LW.

    to Detroit:
C - Brad Richards CHI (not LW) [CHI C2 for most of season. 399 FOW. Most commonly with Versteeg-LW, P.Kane-RW]
For New Team: C-B.Richards. DET does have Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Sheahan/Glendening... but always has considered putting one of Z/Dats on wing. Assume B-Rich is C3.

    to Nashville:
RW - Cody Hodgson BUF (not C) [BUF RW2/RW3. Only 173 FOW in 78 games. SIM Ennis, loss of Stafford/C.Stewart and addition of E.Kane(LW) probably pushes Hodgson to RW.]
For New Team: RW-Hodgson. Almost certain to stay on wing as NAS has Fisher & Ribeiro re-signed. Jarnkrok & Gaustad likely C3/C4.

    to Minnesota:
RW - Zac Dalpe BUF (not C) [BUF RW4. Most common linemate was Philip Varone (Varone was the C, having 147 FOW in 28gp.)]
For New Team: RW-Dalpe. Minnesota is set at center.

    to Philadelphia:
RW - Sam Gagner ARI (not C) [ARI RW2, if all Arizona healthy. Can play C and had 361 FOW. But Arizona will have C1-Hanzal, C2-Arcobello, C3-Chipchura, C4-Vitale to start year until injury.]
For New Team: C-Gagner. I'll speculate he is to be their C3... unless Laughton ready for full time role there. PHI stocked with wingers.

    to Toronto:
LW - Nick Spaling PIT (not C) [PIT LW3/LW4. Most commonly with B.Sutter-C3 or Lapierre-C4]
    For New Team: LW-Spaling. I don't think they'll put him at C.

Wow. Nice work compiling all of this information. I like the process you are going through to accomplish your goal. Positional eligibility in Yahoo is a complete mess and it would be much better for everyone who uses it if it was straightened out.

However, I completely disagree with your thoughts on dual eligibility. If an NHL coach can choose to play Jamie Benn at LW or at C then he SHOULD have more value in a fantasy league then a LWer who cannot play C at all. My belief is that if an NHL player has shown the ability to perform at the same level at two or more different positions, then he should be eligible to play those positions in fantasy leagues. For example, Brent Burns has clearly shown the ability to play both RW and D in the NHL and should therefore be allowed to play those positions in fantasy leagues. Regardless of the fact that he only played D last season, if San Jose were to acquire two more top 4 dmen, he would easily be able to move back to RW. This ability should be rewarded in fantasy leagues and his value should be more because of it. Taylor Hall has shown that he DOES NOT have the ability to play C in the NHL should he should not have dual eligibility in fantasy leagues.

Bottom line is I feel the determining factor to dual eligibility should be has a player shown the ability to play, at the NHL level, multiple positions at the same level of effectiveness.

^That's an interesting way to look at it.

Thanks for the help with the MIN guys and thanks for the kind words on the work!
I've probably spent 20-30 hours on this project!!!
Yahoo! would be so much better (IMO) if they could at least streamline the positional eligibility.

Impressive list Pengwin. I continue to maintain that the best approach is to give every player only 1 position. Ideally providers would open on August 1st and announce every player's position. At that point the position is set for the entire season and can only be changed in the off-season. I realize that this would create some problems (you'd have a few guys marked as wingers that ended up as Centres) but ultimately I find it to be the least bad of the options. I simply don't trust providers to hand out dual-eligibility "properly" or based on any objective criteria. That's why I prefer the rigidity of single eligibility.

Pengwin, what's your plan for this data? Are you going to present it to yahoo in hopes that they review it and set all dual-eligible players to one position? I don't use yahoo but I've read on here about how they have forums and what-not. I hope they at least give you the time of day after you've put all that effort in but I wouldn't hold me breath that they change their current operating procedures.

    BUMP.
Speculating (see green above) on some dual eligibility players that have shifted teams.
Anisimov seems like he should be C2 center for CHI.
Gagner possibly to be C3 center for PHI.

(I remember a few years ago, Yahoo! granted Seguin C-eligibility with his summer trade to Dallas, even having not played it in Boston.)
