I don't know much about this guy.
Has decent numbers in the KHL and size. Looks like he plays with a bit of an edge. Instant value if he signs with the Pens.
Can anyone speak to his game?
Could be an interesting signing if it happens.

From things I have read, this would be a very impactful signing. This could allow the Pens to not make and impulse decisions on acquiring a pick in the first round or two of the draft and/or a top 9 forward.
I pickup him up three weeks ago hoping for him to sign with a team that he'd be a good fit for...Pens could be the best situation.
He's worthy of picking up, if I had to guess I'd say he's maybe a 40-45+ point guy (purely speculation), but maybe higher if he clicks with Crosby or Malkin obviously.

Plotnikov notched 15 goals and 21 assists in 56 games last season with Lokomotiv. Listed at 6-2, 205.

Low risk and might give them exactly what they want.

Having some possible chemistry with Malkin could be a huge plus as well.
Power forward type of player, likes to go out of his way to finish checks and make life miserable for the opposition. Skating is good, but not great, so changing to a smaller rink likely helps his cause. He led his team in scoring two out of the past three years (was 2nd this year), but he had a brutal team, so his stat line doesn't speak to his skill level. Maybe a better line to look at would be his 12 points in 10 WC games last year where he made up the top line with Tikhonov and Danis Zaripov.
Plotnikov is also a pretty good fighter as well.
Played on a line with Ovi in the WC this year and likely saw a shift or two with Malkin.

I don't see any offensive upside with Plotnikov but he should be a good bottom-6 forward in the NHL.
Pens interested in Tikhonov as well

Wouldn't surprise me as Plot and Tikhonov were line mates at the WC last summer. They could easily play together.
Only problem is, this doesn't sound like a very reputable source. The only thing this guy said is Rutherford declined an comment on any FA's, so he can't blindly say the Pens want Tikhonov too.
FWIW, Plotnikov bought out of his KHL contract, not opted out as the article says.
A guy that gets 36 points in 56 KHL games, translates to what in the NHL??
I'm guessing not too much..

To be fair he led his team in scoring 2 out of the past 3 years, this year he was 2nd by 1 point. Lokomotiv isn't exactly a team oozing with skilled players. He also plays a pretty North American style of game that could potentially translate quite well. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get 40 points with solid hit and PIM totals. Maybe closer to 50 points if he lands with Malkin or Sid.
