I believe Button had Hanifin being drafted top 5 in his mock draft. He knows he'll probably get picked there, but he personally just doesn't think he's as good as other scouts.

Buttons rankings are sometimes pretty off but he is also often to first to rank some guys high. A couple years ago he had Nichushkin and Zadorov top 10 long before other scouts did. Some people accuse him of messing with the rankings but I don't see that personally. He justifies his rankings. He's not like Red Line Report who infamously put "Tyler Hill" top 10 in one of their rankings for 2012 - disgraceful clickbait.

We don't have to agree with his list, we also don't need to shoot the guy either.. HaHa..

Nobody shoot the guy. We are amateurs, he's an expert. We are just surprise with some rankings. That's it!

Nor was it... Arleast from a Matt Finn standpoint.

He was far off on that Finn projection... Over estimating. I anticipate he's making up for it in under estimating Hanafin.

Craig Button is an absolute idiot. That is all. Look at his GM resume to judge how "smart" he is.

The epic fall of Kylington continues. Swear, before the draft someone is gonna forecast him going early in the 3rd round.

What's with the hate for Button? Because he puts a list out there that you don't agree with? Seems kinda harsh.

It was pretty much his team that went to the Finals in Calgary, and he had succes in Dallas drafting many good NHL players for them. Maybe his gm record wasn't the best but that does not make somebody an idiot. He clearly has the experience and expertise to be a scout as he was head of scouting Dallas.

I think we all get this is his projection of who will have the best NHL career from this draft. I’m just shocked Zacha, a guy who was top 8 in the draft at the beginning of the yr, dropped from a suspension and an injury will be out done by some of those guys. Zacha will prolly be drafted 10-15, but that’s because of the suspension and injury, otherwise top 10 would prolly happen. Then his drop on this list would be top 10 to 23, which would turn heads more.

I get it’s just his ideas of who will be better; I’m just surprised he doesn’t have faith in Zacha. However, I do like how it’s different. It’s a lot more fun to read than the cookie cutter list that we’ve all come to read over and over.

i would be more pissed if it was the same list as everyone else. group-think is a powerful force.

re: Hanifin @ 12, does everyone forget that top-5 ranked Cam Fowler fell to 12 in 2010? all I'm saying is it's possible.

You're right but Hanifin is more Seth Jones than Cam Fowler.

Is this really 100% his opinion? Sometimes it looks to me like he's going for shock value...

Jones was ranked No1 in a lot of scouting reports. Top 3 for sure in like 99% of them, but he dropped to 4th. I think he is saying Hanifin might drop, but not like Fowler, more like Jones. (Not comparing talent or style)

And I may be wrong, but in term of talent, Hanifin is more Jones than Fowler. His offense is underrated because he is not flashy and he is not a risk taker.

well... i don't know. Hanifin imo is a closer "type" of player to Fowler, and all 3 of them were almost universally ranked top 5 ahead of their drafts. where Hanifin might be closer to Jones is that there aren't the whispered questioning of intangibles that there were with Fowler.
