With the Oilers drafting McDavid and most likely making some moves to solidify their team in the offseason (D, G and veteran forwards), I can only see Slepyshev starting the year in the AHL.

He should start in the AHL, but getting him signed is a nice move by Edmonton.

Hahaha! For the next 2 years, I see him in the AHL too. But I mean long-term, where does he fit in? Is he top 6 material??

Think his long-term upside is still top 9 or maybe top 6 as the defensive conscious on a line with 2 offensive guys.
Good player with solid skills and strong instincts - but personally don't have him in the mix for top 6 at the NHL level.

Actually having a few guys in the mix that top out as good solid depth players would be a great thing for this team. They have enough players with a scoring line mentality.

I don't see much offensive upside for him. Even in somewhat limited minutes, he hasn't progressed as he should have the past couple of years. In the last part of the year, he got more minutes and was more productive, but he's far from being an "impact" player that many thought he would/could be.
