Rotoworld is reporting that he has been medically cleared to play after an emergency appendectomy on Monday. Wow.

Techincally there really isnt any threat of re-injury, if he can handle the discomfort he should be fine.
Its a very clean surgery these days, usually a very small incision in or around the belly button, and the appendix is removed, unlike a corrective surgery where the area needs significant time to heal.
That said, when I had this surgery, I was in serious discomfort for 2-3 weeks if I tried anything physical. Callahan prolly has better meds then I did, probably a better surgeon then my Alberta health care allowed as well.

There's also two types of surgery. Most people are back to playing within a week after the type of surgery Callahan had. So bump that up a day or two to Saturday, it's really not surprising to me. Tough, sure, but this is really only a few days earlier than you or I would be able to play on some pain killers.
If I were making the decision, I would hold him out of Game 1 even though I'm sure he wants to play so bad that he'd punch you in the face for holding him out of the line-up even though he has medical clearance.

He probably wanted to play game 6 vs the Habs!
The will to compete.
Per twitter.@FriedgeHNIC: RT @drosennhl: Jon Cooper says Ryan Callahan will be in warmups and a decision will be made after. "Pretty tough kid so I expect him to play," Cooper said.
I just realized the game was already on. He is playing.
He didn't look out of place either.. Much respect for a player that brings his all no matter the situation..
