Good article on him
With all the McDavid and Eichel hype people are so pumped for this years draft but i heard there was a kid that was supposed to be better then Eichel coming out of college Austin Matthews i think his name was, anyways, i was curious if anyone had any insight on the depth of the draft in 2016-2017.

And... with Matthews... it snowballs on the overall fantasy keeper-league strategy of this being the best time since the mid 2000s (Crosby/Ovechkin/Malkin) to be in a rebuild.
I mean, a lot of fantasy teams that finish low and build with McDavid/Eichel will still stink in 2015-2016 and might be able to then land Auston Matthews.
[Since Dakkster is no longer with us, I'll be the stickler that reminds people not to forget the "O" in AustOn! ]

Very much worth knowing:
Matthews missed this year's draft cut-off by just two days. His birthday is Sept 17th.
The NHL cut-off for eligible youth is September 15 (they want the kids to be 18-years old when CAMP opens - and thus adult-employees of NHL teams).
Anyways, this means he's oldest in his draft class... which some say is good for their development as they have the confidence of maturity over their draft class.
As for draft depth, personally I don't know, but here's an article:

This right here is my plan too TGS...... I have 6 1st rnders this year and 2 next. We have a lottery so nothing is guaranteed, but worst I can do is 2nd overall this year because I am dead last(roster full of teenagers!!), plus looking like I will have 5 of the top 11 picks, next year I will be in the lottery again for 1st overall.

Mathews is a good prospect and some consider him on par with Eichel but the 2016 is stacked with some other top end prospects that should give Matthews a run.
Defenseman Jakob Chychrun is as good as Ekblad at the same age.
Finn Jesse Puljujarvi is receiving high praise.
Max Jones is a throwback power forward with one of the best shots I've seen at his age.
Clayton Keller is a magician with the puck.
Sean Day will fight for a Top 5 spot.
It's an impressive top end in 2016.
For 2017, I absolutely love Nolan Patrick (WHL). He reminds me a lot of Jonathan Toews.Other names to watch include David Farrance (D), Michael Pastujov, Vesalainen, Patrick Khodorenko, Luke Martin (D), Ivanov, among others.
In 2018, keep your eyes on Oliver Wahlstrom. Watched him last month and he's a beast who oozes offensive skill. Hard to believe that he's three drafts away. Looks like he'd be Top 10 for this draft.

Thanks for the great insight guys!
Matthews has recently broke Patrick Kane's NTDP record for points in a season. He's going to be pretty good. He's a better at this age than Jack Eichel was according to my NHL scout contact.
