I'm not a car guy, but will admit that it seems pretty fast.
I don't know how many folks on this forum are fans of the different types of motorsports, but regardless if your a fan or not this is just impossible to wrap your head around.

That's absolutely stunning. From 0-328MPH in 3.7 seconds. The average family sedan takes roughly 9+ seconds, or nearly three times as long just to get to 60. And to also cover 1000 feet in that same 3.7 seconds. Heck the first 100 feet off the line would be gone in roughly .7 or .8 seconds! Holy shit!
For a frame of reference the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, the fastest production car in the world, takes 2.4 seconds to hit 60 and would need roughly two or three miles to hit it's top speed of 268.
I don't know about you but I'd love to know what it feels like to slam my foot down on 10,000 horsepower.

Wow - I am not a racing fan either, but that's pretty damn quick. What kind of g-force would that put on you? You'd think it might snap a rib or two...

I've heard it's around 4G's positive while on the throttle and around that same number to the negative when they hit the 'chutes to whoa 'em up. They estimate it's around the same as the Space Shuttles used to pull on launch.
That's why newbies always ask me: "Why's that guy out of breath? He didn't do anything but drive." The G load on those things are unreal even if it's only for roughly 8-10 seconds total.

This article here gives a ballpark figure on what goes into a run like that. It's not entirely accurate to the 2015 cars since this was written back around 2005-06 or so....

For several years now they've limited the Nitromethane powered cars to 1,000 foot runs instead of standard 1,320. The speeds got so insane over that extra 320 feet that cars were running clear off the end of the track which resulted in a couple of deaths for drivers. It was determined by the NHRA that shortening the tracks was the better option than extending the runoff areas at the end of the tracks. Speeds are catching back up to where they were when the change took effect so they may end up having to limit the power these cars make. Stop and think at that speed that extra 320 feet they gained goes by in less than 1 second.
Another interesting factoid. The horsepower figures on these cars are calculated mathematically based on ET and a few aerodynamic values to arrive at the amount of HP it would take to run the number that was posted. Or at least it used to be. I don't know if they now have dynamometers that can stand up to the amount of horsepower being applied to them, but years ago when the cars were making only 5,000 or so HP there weren't any dynos that could last long enough to properly measure that much power.

So Awesome! So Emotional!
270 feet per second. Wow that's fast. Thanks for the link NWO!
I’ll have to tell my GF that there is something out there that finishes before I do.
