Logjam in MIN. One thing is for sure though, Harding won't get a chance to come back to the NHL for the foreseeable future.
Dubnyk/Kuemper as the tandom? Backstrom hasn't been good in relief or as a starter, so I can't really see him staying much longer.

Default Dubnyk traded to Minnesota for a 3rd rounder

This looks like a great fit for a decent Minnesota team in need of a goaltender.

I didn’t read the whole thread, so I don’t know if this was mentioned. But Dubnyk is one of 9 goalies with a winning record (9-5-2), with an even strength s% of over 0.930 (0.933), among goalies with at least 15 starts. Dubnyks penalty killing s% is terrible (0.860) but minnys PK is 8th in the league so that’ll bolster his numbers.

Also the goalie coach (or coach) of the ‘Yotes said Dubnyk has picked up the worse traits he’s ever seen in a goalie and he has to be coached out of them.

Turns out Mike Lee is the backup for now. I still expect to see McKenna up fairly soon. Lee is terrible.

I'm sure that's fine by the Coyotes' management.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

My shock was more from why they would move Dubs given Smith's play of late? Is the acquired third really that important to them?

    Weird.

I suppose. Plus, Lee has to be used to not playing by now. In three years as a pro he has only appeared in 50 games, including just 22 over the last two seasons.

I didn't have a long chance to comment on this trade yesterday (family time post 5pm yesterday).

I like this move for Minnesota... AND Dubnyk.
There ARE teams in the NHL that could play a lot differently if the just BELIEVE they can win.
    Minnesota is one.
I, personally, believe Minnesota has the talent to be a top 3 team in the West.
    Even a Stanley Cup contender.
    Their top six is incredible.
Their 3rd line guys (guys like Zucker, Nino) are excellent.
    Their defense is solid.

Their goalies... overperformed last year... feel the pressure this year.
Kuemper felt it as soon as his play started warranting merit as THE #1... then he cracked.
    Backstrom is just old.

Dubnyk is actually a decent goalie, better than the other two.

For the Wild club, they NEEDed a change.
If it's not Yeo (which, internally... we don't know if the players support him or not)... but if it's not Yeo... the next best change was in NET.

If they start Dubnyk and win two (they've got BUF & ARI coming up)... then they can head into the ASG break with a different "feel".
This Wild team... if the start playing motivated hockey... if they believe they can be good... will be good.

At least... I believe they have it in them to be an excellent hockey team.
But the focus has certainly not been there and the belief they can win games left them a month ago.

New goalie... hey, anything is possible.
(This is the way a hockey team/players can think...)

I suppose, also, from the 'Yotes perspective this trade should be viewed as an indirect statement re their full support of Smith. Right or wrong.

    re: Smith.
    Well, sort of right.
    Goalies are weird.
For all we know, Smith may have had conversations with coach & GM where he might say "I feel like the club is leaning towards Devan these days and I worry about that and think about it too much."
    Ya never know.

I did think it was weird the way Phoenix kept saying they were married/committed to Smith.
Obviously! They paid him the money!

Some people are motivated from confidence. (not having any challengers for their spot, full support - even when they stink)
Some people are motivated from challenge. (criticism of their play, others in line to take their spot)

When I played high school soccer, the more somebody criticized me... the worse I played... I got worried I'd screw up and that made me play even more poorly.
I had a teammate that I talked to about this and he said "Really, if I get criticized, I want to play better. Step up and show them how good you are."

    Two different mind-sets.
I'm guessing Smith suggests he plays better when the team fully supports him and there is no challenger.

    My 2 cents.
    (???)
