Is it safe to say that one of Varlamov and Neuvirth should become the future starter in Washington after Theodore is gone?

And Elliott in Ottawa when Gerber is gone (if they don\'t get someone else?)

Fairly safe, I think. There is still the small possibility in Washington that Machesney will come in momentarily if Varlamov and Neuvirth aren\'t ready when Theodore\'s contract is over. But I think that possibility is really small.

I\'m banking on Elliott becoming the starter in Ottawa. Everyone is raving about him everywhere, pretty much.

The situation in Ottawa is the following: in the 2009-10 season, they will only have Auld under contract. Elliott will be a RFA and Gerber a UFA. They will not resign Gerber for 3.7 M$ unless he has a perfect 08-09 season.

Is Elliott ready next year ? I don\'t think so unless he beats Auld to be the backup this upcoming season.

Scenario with Washington, Theodore will be an UFA in the 2010-11 season and by that time he will be 33. I think that he will be resign with Varlamov as backup for a couple of seasons.
