Did you have a question or what was the purpose of the thread?
I came to Dobber with this idea as I play in cap/salary leagues and obviously the cost (cap or salary) helps/hurts values of player especially in cap leagues.
For example, in a keeper trade, we all need the help of the categories, H2H etc, but a lot of the answers I see have a post somewhere in there that ask "Is salary a question?" That's where I feel this forum slot fits perfectly. It can ease the posting of a proposed trade or a simple question of rating 3 players with cap implications and so forth.
Lets have at it!

I posted to try and get some activity in the thread as it is brand new. I will have loads of questions...
But I'll start it off..
In a standard H2H league with standard cats (G A Pts PIM +/- SOG, PPP SHP GWG) and salaries at 20 mill over the real cap, how would you value or rank these guys:
Jamie Benn
Matt Duchene
Henrik Zetterberg
easy
Benn - best salary or next 3 yrs, 70pt player with good cats
Duchene - next best salary but over 5 yrs, also another 70 pt player
Zettz - approx 7.5 for a couple more years, not worth it based on age, decline, injury risk
Benn and Duchene could be interchangeable depending on preference.

I agree but I guess as a follow up, and we don't know the answer, but does Benn get PAID after this contract? We all saw Getz and Perry and thought ok, that's high (at least I did at the time) and then was hoping and preying a few years later that Toews and Kane would get Getz type money and they got the yacht too.
On the flipside, Zetts produces close to their amounts and his salary declines sharply at the end.
You'd be lucky to squeeze 60 games out of Zetts in a season. By the time his salary declines to a reasonable amount, your league may not even exist. Your event horizon should be the next 3 years at a time. I'm sure both Benn and Duchene will get paid when their contract ends but for now, you can't worry about that if it's still couple years away.

I try not to look too far beyond 3 years... so...
Benn
...
Duchene
Zetterberg
Also, of note... even with this forum... some leagues go with "cap hit" and some leagues go with "actual salary".
So, there' should perhaps be a pinned thread about specifying which one pertains to somebody's league/settings.
Great idea though.
Especially because... most of the time... unless somebody DOES cap leagues... they don't really have the mindset about "per dollar worth" of a player, when giving advice.
Good points guys thanks!
It's worth noting that Axeman33 takes over the Capped column this week which basically covers anything that you would find in this sub-forum. I'm sure he would be willing to take some requests for future weeks. The toughest part about weekly columns is constantly finding new material/topics to cover. I always loved it when people approached me with topic ideas because it took care of the topic selection ahead of time.

Good thread to have but I normally try and take salary into consideration when talking trades and what not if that info is in the OP. Still this is a good sub-forum to have.

*BTW... speaking about salaries/caphit/contracts... when Dobber talks about his "Player Pages"... one really good feature would be a metric to put a value on players by each of:
i) Cap Hit
ii) Actual Salary
This could grow exponentially (unf)... but it can be useful when comparing players.
In simple terms, we know that a 75pt forward making $7.5m is about even to a 50pt forward making $5.0m.
But it would be cool to be able to have those numbers for standard multi-cat (G,A,+/-,PIM,PPP,SOG) for past years and current year pace.
Along with having each year of stats for a player... I'd recommend having CAP HIT & ACTUAL SALARY on the end (or start) of each line of yearly stats.
