Has 20 + years of mediocrity ruined me? A fans rant.

I'm one of the biggest Islander fans you will ever meet. I grew up on Long Island during the "Dynasty era", I've also been to games when there was 5k people the bldg if you were lucky. But, I've been brow beaten so many times over the past 20 years that it's hard for me to stay excited for too long about what the Islanders are doing and continue to so far this season. I'm almost afraid to start waiving the banner because I'm waiting for the wheels to start coming off. There's a real excitement among the fans and the trash talking between us and the Ranger fans has also picked up. I hate to be cynical, but when does it stop...this fear of mediocrity?????????

I got this with my German soccer team since i was a little kid. For me it never left. I am always just waiting for them to explode on me and they have not disappointed me so far in that department.
I learned to live with it and take it as a special kind of exitment.

And one day when they really stay good it will be suuuuuuuuuuuuch a good feeling!

Fingers crossed for your Islanders that point will come soon!

At least you’ve been alive when they won the cup. There’s like 2 generations of us Leaf fans that haven’t seen a Stanley cup final series. The last time the Leafs won a series was pre-lockout.

Nothing wrong with being a fan of a continually bad team. The moment that you accept your team for what it is and temper your expectations, you get more enjoyment out of it. A good example would be Calgary right now. This is a team that has been bad for a long time (not as bad as EDM though), and was projected to be a horrible team for the next few years during it's rebuild. The fans have totally accepted this, they are behind their team. The quality of the roster is almost AHL level and anything that resembles a hard effort will please the fans right now. Because of the surprise start this season, the fans are going buck-wild in Calgary and there's almost an electricity in the air just like when they were doing their 2004 playoff run. Enjoy the little moments as a fan, it's not about the final prize but the little moments.

Try being a Toronto sports fan. Until the Raptos this year, we've had disappointment and mismanagement for decades. The Blue Jays make huge trades and I'm still pessimistic. Always expecting failure.

It's remind me Montreal back in 2000 until 2006 season it was so "great" to watch : Stevenson, Savage (M.October), Linden (the guy who was suppose to be THE sh*t for us) Petrov, Rivet, Darby, Zholtok, Ulanov , Malakhov (M.IR aka I love skiing) .... then so much fun with Berezin (....) - Kilger - Czerkawski ( zzzz ! zzzz !) , Bonk. I wake up sometime on night ... I still have nightmares ! I think you have to watch ALOT of mediocrity to fully appreciate a respectable team who make progress.


So .. Keep up the fate my friend and let Tavares (M.MVP by far) lead your team to the glory

I'll tell you what, I don't know how long this is going to last, but it's a lot of fun watching this team right now.
