I think they will be closer to 5 points difference rather than 20 points difference next season and would probably roll with RNH, depending on how your league views older players Thornton could be an easier redraft
I'm in a 12 team pts only league.
4C 8W 4D 1G active. 5 bench spots.
We keep 5 players.
I'm keeping Giroux, Karlsson, Backstrom (WAS), and Kunitz.
Debating between Nuge and Joe Thornton.
Obviously like Nuge long term, and he carries a bit more keeper value for trades, but wondering if Joe's value for this year alone gives him the nod.
Thoughts?

If I were wagering, I'd say that there's a 75% chance that RNH outpoints Thornton either starting in this season or next, and once he does he'll outpoint him every year to come. So while Thornton is tough to not keep since he's so consistent and could continue to produce good totals for 5 more years, you need to go with RNH here. Plus, Thornton would be less costly to redraft.
In a keeper league i’m in that started this yr, Thornton went round 6, RNH went like 10. I’d say keep Thornton if you think you can compete this yr, but RNH if you want to compete next yr. I’d go with Thornton, but in your league if RNH has more trade value, I’d go with him.
Thornton if you want to compete this yr, or RNH if he has more trade value/compete next yr. Personally you can find a 5th keeper in your redraft, so I’d keep Thornton, draft Wheeler and keep Wheeler next yr (Wheeler is just an example).

Points-only is the type of league where I'd take RNH over Thornton.
Multi-cat, I'd still take Thornton.
I'm a big Thornton fan, but I think you have to go with RNH here simply because it's a keeper and you will be better suited long term with RNH. Perhaps try packaging both for an upgrade?

I'd lean towards RNH, especially if you think his trade value is higher.

Thornton for me. You've got a solid core that's ready to compete right now. Thornton helps you a lot more in that respect; I just don't trust RNH, and this whole "he gained 10 pounds, he's gonna be strong" narrative is kinda bogus if you ask me. I'll believe RNH can handle the rigors of the Western Conference when he actually handles them, and not while playing on the perimeter.
