Sweet, they can put the gold medal up next to Kevin Lowe's Stanley Cup trophy case!

In all seriousness, can't say it's a bad move to bring in people with specific skill sets...

Maybe they can bring in Pierre Leuders to teach Hall how to slide around on his ass better as well.

Nice move. There really aren't many teams with dedicated skating coaches, are there?

I know Toronto hired Barbara Underhill at one time. Not sure of other teams.

Wouldn't people like Gaetan Boucher or Clara Hughes be better power skating instructors. Not trying to slight figure skaters but why wouldn't speed skaters make instructors/trainers for this type of power skating job??

Yup, maybe Dillon Simpson won't be getting a lot of help.

Was kinda hoping that the "gold medalist" would've been Ryan Smyth.

Maybe but maybe they aren't available/interested in that kind of work.

Maybe but I just used those two as examples as they are two of the more known Canadian speed skaters. There has to be a training difference between speed skaters and figure skaters.

My guess would be power skating is completely different. Just look at the size of their blades alone. Figure skates are a little different, but they would be more similar. Plus figure skating has more side to side movement than speed skating.

Well the second argument is that speed skaters are about getting to maximum speed and sustaining it over however long of time. If hockey were an endurance, straight line sport, they'd have more to offer. Figure skating involves a lot more of the quick dynamic movement required in hockey. See Jeff Skinner, former figure skater.
