But staying on topic, I've never watched anything during Shark Week. I figure it serves no other purpose than making me afraid of swimming in the ocean, no matter how close I stay to the shore lol!

My thoughts precisely - They took the camp, the gore, and the heavy-handed hammy acting and just ran with it.
The result is by no means great cinema, but its engaging enough that I'd stay up an extra hour after the girlfriend has gone to bed to finish it if it's Tuesday night and I've had a couple glasses of wine.

I knew sharks weren't real!
*Disclaimer: I haven't read anything in the thread and I have just assumed that the actual sharks were the things they made up...

I have long been a fan of Shark Week, but was sort of turned off last year when they first aired "Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives". I, like many people, didn't realize it was fiction until I did a bit of Internet research. What made me angriest was that the docufiction, as it is called, had lots of great, accurate information about what scientists know about the real carcharadon megalodon species that existed some 28 to 1.5 million years ago. Because people soon discovered that the "documentary" they had just watched was fiction, many then just wrongly assumed that there was ever any such creature, but there was! Terrible idea.
To that end, I find myself questioning if all of these documentaries I have watched so far this week are real or not. There was one about a twenty foot hammerhead reported in the waters of the Bahamas which has already been lambasted as being more legend than fact. How can I believe any of what they show anymore. Just p****s me off.

Okay... so I'm taking in a little shark week and it's a program on a couple of shark attacks at surf beach California... blah, blah cool video, blah...
And then they decide to take the tooth fragments found in one victim and try and get DNA... which is wtf enough, but when they discover the fragments are too small the narrator basically says "once again the killer shark stays one step ahead of the police".
What in the hell? Sharks are now doing forensic counter measures? This world is a scary place.

You want a shark "fact" search for Joe Chernov shark infographic image.... An estimated 100million sharks are killed every year by humans...
Take out an apex predator from the food chain and you're going to having serious issues in the food chain...
Obviously that's a big number and it's pretty well impossible to prove, but, it's still pretty harrowing nonetheless... My advice, boycott shark fin soup and spread the word.
Not THAT hairy, honest!
