Thread: Malkin VS. Giroux?

    Default Malkin VS. Giroux?

Limited multi-cat keeper with positional requirements for FWDs:

Skaters = G, A, PTS, PPP, SOG, FOW, HIT, BLK
    Goalies = W, SV, GAA, SV%

    We draft 3C, 3RW, 3LW and 3Fwds along with 6D and 2G plus bench.

If I have the option, I'm considering drafting Giroux over Malkin mostly because of FOW, hits and blocks. Also, if he retains dual position eligibility, that's a commodity that has HUGE value.

Am I crazy to think Giroux would be more valuable with these cats than Malkin?

    Cheers!

You're not crazy with thinking it with those settings. Malkin is an injury risk and Giroux's value (especially as a RW) goes up significantly with FOW. Malkin as an RW has some increased value as well. At the end of the day I probably still opt for Malkin; the point upside of a healthy (70+ games) Malkin is too enticing.

FOW gives Giroux a boost but I think Malkin should go first, but I think its honestly very close!
In the Rocky Horror Roto Show (Tons of unbelievable GM's who post here) with the same categories as you posted:
Malkin went 3rd and Giroux went 7th

This year, I could foresee Giroux possibly getting picked before Malkin with these cats.
Malkin is a terrific player... but there will be some learning curve their with new teammates.
James Neal was an excellent compliment for him.

One-year league... I'm probably taking Giroux here too... wow, can't believe I'm saying this.

    I know...right?!?
It's an inaugural draft with others that are also new to multi-cat.
I'm thinking of drafting Malkin and then trading him for Giroux plus.
    I dunno...lol

    Any other comments??

I don't think Malkin will be around by your 5th pick.
If everyone is new than I would say it would probably go: Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin, Malkin as the first 4. And then you could probably get Tavares/Giroux with your pick I think?

I prefer Giroux. He was 3rd in the league in points last year and puts up gigantic FOW numbers.

Malkin has missed a lot of games lately. He has been in the press box for the past 2 fantasy playoffs. He only seems to become Superman when Sid is out injured.

picking 5th I can't see Malkin there. I actually think you'll be picking between Giroux/Ovechkin

I'd take Roo over Malkin in that format. I'd take Ovie over Malkin too.

Malkin's on the decline in my books. Too much volatility and even less attractive with Neal out of the picture.

Okay after thinking about this more I think you may be choosing between Malkin and Giroux afterall.
If any of these 4 are available I would take them without a doubt

    Crosby (Have to IMO)
Stamkos (YOUNG, this is a keeper)
Ovechkin (League I am in with these exact cats have Ovechkin as #1 overall by a wide margin)
    Tavares (AGE bumps him up)

    Giroux
    Malkin

Here is to hoping you get one of Stamkos/Tavares/Ovi somehow!!!!

I don't see any reason why losing Neal will affect Malkin. He's Malkin, he'll mesh with anyone and can put up a 95 points pace in 82 games almost on his own. The issue is not linemates, its health.

Girouix is a very easy call in the 5th spot over Malkin with your categories - while I still think Malkin is the better player and will produce better ppg stats - he just misses to much time and that risk continues and you don't need that aggravation. Another player who ranks top 10 in your league with dual eligibility is Pavelski who is never going in the first round and maybe not even the second, so put a watch on him.

Pavelski is a late 3rd at best IMO, just so much uncertainty given his lack of track record to match last year's output and his abnormally high shooting percentage. I think he drops down to low 60 pts this year.
