Mackinnon.
Don't overthink this one. The sophomore slump isn't a necessity.
In a 1 year league, head to head, usual yahoo stats. We get to keep one player drafted after the 3rd round of last year's draft. Who would you keep?
Weber
Miller (G)
JVR
Mackinnon
Leaning towards Mack but worried about a sophomore slump. Miller could be good because then I wouldn't have to go too hard on a goalie. Weber is a multi-cat stud. JVR can score a goal or two playing with Kessel.
Thoughts?
Mackinnon.
Don't overthink this one. The sophomore slump isn't a necessity.

I'm actually going Weber. As you said, he's a multi cat stud. And as much as I love Mackinnon, I'm not getting caught up in the hype. He won't magically post 90 points next year. Expect 70 pts - in which case, in a 1 year league, I'd rather have the 50-55 pt defenseman that dominates all stats. You know what you are getting with Weber. And hey, what about the slim chance Mackinnon does hit a sophomore slump?
What are the stats?
Calling them usual Yahoo stats really means nothing.

I am slightly torn between Weber and MacKinnon. I would rule out the other two, as Miller will have a tough time collecting Wins and SO with a rebuilding Canucks team and I think van Riemsdyk doesn't match the elite talent of Weber and MacKinnon. With Weber you know what you get: a multi-cat elite d-man that only a few others can match. With MacKinnon, there might be more risk but I think the possible reward should be worth it. In the end, I would go with MacKinnon.
How many teams?
What pick do you have?
Both will be available by your 3rd or 4th pick I would imagine.
I would keep Mackinnon.
Still MacK for me. If hits and blocks were included, I might keep Weber. But with those categories, I'd take MacK.

With HIT/BLK I would keep Weber, you can draft offensive guys like Mackinnon with your picks.
Since each GM is keeping someone from round 3 or later, the first 2-3 picks you have are going to be previous 1-3 round players which means you have a shot at Crosby, Stamkos, Tavares etc. Tons of time to draft players who are PP1 (Which runs out first when you draft (credit:Pengwin)). I would keep Weber as he should dominate stats like these!

Blocks and Hits added => I would keep Weber!
Weber for me too. Although I don't understand the concept of 1 year leagues with keepers
I'd keep Mack in this one. Tough to let go of Weber.
Don't worry about the sophomore slump. Mediocre/Good players have sophomore slumps, not stars.
When everyone else uses an early pick on a stud D you are going to be stoked because you already have Weber and can pluck elite forwards while they focus on positional requirements, albeit this is just 1 player but 1D > 0D more than 1F>0F imo
Especially if you get the first pick for example:
You can select Crosby ie. and then next two picks can be F/G or G/G dont have to worry about Subban/Buff/Weber/Doughty/Karlsson being gone and having to select Phaneuf!
