Might get it done. I'd give it some strong consideration if I had Malkin (mostly because of the constant injuries). Hope this works out for you!

I think it will probably take one more of the prospects. Personally, I'd rather have another of the kids then the 2 picks.

I figure you're probably right - but at least this gives me some "room" to move, if he asks for more.

He won't move without me giving up MacKinnon, which is a price I'm not willing to pay.

I don't blame him for wanting Mackinnon. That's who I'd go after as well. Crazy thing is that you won't even consider dealing Mackinnon, which is understandable yet just goes to show how much we (fantasy-hockey people) overvalue young players.

If a fantasy draft happened from scratch today, Malkin would likely be among the first players selected. Mackinnon would likely go early as well, but not before Malkin.

Yep. As a Malkin owner myself, I don't think I would budge without MacKinnon, Toews or Benn in the deal somewhere.

Personally, I would target someone else. Malkin is good, really good. But he is injured too often to make such a huge offer for. He's not worth it. Most folks have him on this huge pedestal based on the years he goes bananas. I think there are more dud years than banana years recently tho. Check out the table below.

All this talk of bananas has me wanting to sing Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani.

I've never owned Malkin and probably don't ever want to for the exact reason stated in this chart. If the guy bangs out 110 points i'm sitting pretty, but if he sits out half the year I'm pretty pissed. Just isn't worth the headache year after year no knowing what you're gonna get.

I traded Malkin this year for Kopitar, Stepan and Nichuskin. A good deal in my opinion. Malkin isnt worth what he once was. Constant injuries, When Crosby is healthy he isnt as productive. He is held in high regard but alot of people dont want to give up too much for a potential(probably) 70pt player. But there is always the hope that he hits 100pts again.

It's true. Malkin might be a 1.2 ppg player but he only stays healy about two thirds of most seasons. His two worst years were years I drafted him in one year leagues and I have since avoided him like the plague. People always talk about the upside, but I don't care what a player could do, I care about what they actually do. And for Malkin, that's putting up 75 points in 65. There's no reason to pat yourself on the back and say "see? he's still over a point per game!" when it doesn't help you win.

Myself and others have been telling people to think harder before they draft Malkin for at least the last 6 years and it's hilarious that people back then chirped me saying "oh you'll see, he'll get over his injury problems". That worked out fine didnt it?

Seems absolutely absurd to say "Malkin" and "70 points" in the same sentence, but given the time missed as of late, unfortunately this is becoming a new reality for a lot of owners.

The Kessel offer sounds like it's in the right ballpark, but I think if he's trying to win now, it'd be better for you to try an trade Kessel and St. Louis for Malkin and one of his young guys. Given St. Louis' age and new team, I think you'd be unloading him at the best possible moment for a really good return.
    The League:
11-teams, pts-only, no positional restrictions, top 12/20 count.
    1 in-season UFA (24+y/o), 3 round entry draft.
Unlimited (24+y/o) off-season UFAs after the entry draft.

    The Show:
Crosby, Malkin, Kopitar, Eberle, Couture, Krejci, Subban, Simmonds, Hedman, Jokinen, Kesler, Barrie, Johansson

    The Farm:
MacKinnon, Toffoli, Bjugstad, Spooner, Zucker, Bjorkstrand, Jaskin

All of this is completely true. Just wanted to get the fact that you're right out of the way.

But the reason people can't get over Malkin is because of that upside. If he plays 82 games, he has a legit shot at the Art Ross. 2011-12 when he had 50 goals and 109 points, he only played 75 games. He is one of only two players in the league capable of challenging for a scoring title with only 65-70 games played. So there's that.

On the other hand, last year he just seemed a little "less" than usual. 72 in 60 still rates out to 98 over 82 which is great, but I don't know he seemed off. He had the huge November (25 in 15 games) but was "just" PPG the rest of the season. Pass-first types keep their production longer, so I'm not worried about a big drop-off from Geno.....but just maaaaybe the injuries are starting to catch up to him?
