That's a good guess. I'll say $1 million even.

This will now give the Leafs 16 forwards with one-way contracts. That's a lot. They can certainly afford to pay NHL salary for guys in minors but still. Trade coming before the season starts?

What happened to letting the young marlies play for a position? They had like 5 people up for 1 spot, now it’s 6 ppl. They throw this 1.5mill (previously was getting 1.8 in Ana) at a guy they don’t really need, yet they haven’t signed Gardiner. Gardiner is a much better player than Franson in my eyes (I’m including his potential too), so come on guys, sign the players you need first.

17mill for 5 D (3.4mill/player)
5.2mill for 2 goalies (2.6mill/player)

4.375mill in free cap space. Then minus Winniks pay day (1.5 let’s say) so 2.875mill left to sign Gardiner….He won’t be happy with that considering Franson got 3.3mill. Here is to thinking Lupul is going to be traded soon to free up 5.25mill.

It’s going to be a battle for the 4^th line. I think Booth, Frattin and Ashton all have the edge to make it in, but who knows. I know Shanahan wants there to be young guys in the mix so that helps Leivo, Frattin, and Ashton. Bodie showed he will go 100% every shift last yr, but he’s got stone hands out there.

Talk about a crowded bottom 6. I think Winnik is a very good player, knows his role and will be a great addition, but given the contracts Toronto already has on the books, this is a bit of a head scratcher.

Good deal for the Leafs. I am surprised it took him this long to land somewhere. Going to be an interesting competition to see who lands in the bottom 6 for the Leafs.
