Is Pacioretty any more ready than Subban to be the captain? And if Subban is seen as the future captain, I don't think Pacioretty really fit as short-term captain then.

I don't see Markov as Captain. Not that he would be bad, but he would have a lot more media time and I don't see him wanting that.

PK should be captain if they ever signed him long term. I could see that it wouldn't affect his performance.

A's should go to any of Pacioretty, Plekanec or maybe even a guy like Desharnais.

Rotate the 'C' between Subban, Plekanec and Pacioretty until one of them lives up to it, then make it permanent. Worked out nicely for Mikko Koivu and the Wild.

I don't see rotating being an option, for me at least. Pick a guy and stick with him.

I'm not sure how much the locker room would support Subban effectively "buying" the captaincy.

Agreed. It has to be one captain. I don't think it can be Subban. He can be the face, the media guy etc. but that doesn't have to be the captain... Roy and Brodeur were the faces, even when Muller or Langenbrunner or whoever, Niuewendyk were the actual on-ice captains...

Maybe go with no captain for a bit and see if Subban rises to the occasion. I would actually be ok with that. I think if Subban showed he was ok with that, he would grow and grab the role in short order. Just because someone has the potential to shortly earn a promotion, doesn't mean you give it to him now. Some things still gotta be earned. Don't think Subban has earned it yet.

And I think he'd make a terrible Captain, frankly. He's too loud, impulsive and potentially divisive. We need him to just focus on becoming the world's best all around dman and leave the team leadership to others. The C should clearly go to Markov for the next 3 years, and then I'd venture it'll be passed on to Pacioretty or even Eller (shocking, I know, but I think he has the kind of demeanor to be an effective Captain).

I mostly agree with you but I actually think I would give it to Subban after Markov retires. He will have matured by then and I see nothing wrong with a boastful captain, as long as he is consistent, thoughtful, fair, diligent and doesn't cheat anyone out of 100% of his honest effort. I don't mind loud, but what I want his committed, hard-working, well-spoken and inspirational. I don't care if he chirps the other team a bit, as long as he doesn't hurt the team in the process. I think Subban can be those things in 3 years. I just don't think he is those things right now. He's close, but not there.
