The Calgary Flames expect goaltender Jonas Hiller to be recovered quickly after an appendicitis attack last week.

Hiller reportedly had minor surgery after experiencing the attack working out in Switzerland.

"The procedure nowadays ... they can do it arthroscopically," Flames general manager Brad Treliving told the Calgary Herald on Thursday. "They’re saying within nine to 12 days you're up and back to normal.

"[Hiller’s agent] felt by next week that he's right back in the swing of things. The hope and the plan and the expectation right now is that there's no long recovery period."

May have only been a minor thing, but there are certain guys that these little injuries seem to follow around.

Injury? Its appendictis not a wonky groin. It can hit any healthy person with little warning but it is a routine medical event that is easy to fix and recover 100% from. Its not like we have to worry about Hiller having chronic episodes of appendicitis for the rest of his career....

Yea, I got appendicitis in Mexico on holidays, waited 5 days to get home to have surgery, and still was up and walking within like 2 or 3 days. Pretty minor surgery.

That's not quite what I meant, but okay.

I was insinuating that injury prone players always seem to have these freak things happen to them. Like when Hall was on his way to being a BAB early in his career and he had the freak accident in warm up when he got sliced on the face by a skate. If it had happened to anyone else it's an accident, but of course it would happen to Hall at that time.

Same thing with Hiller now. He had his vertigo (only NHL player I can think of to be diagnosed with it), his LBI's, now his appendectomy. I understand it can hit anyone, but of course it hits Hiller.

Thats all I was getting at

I knew what you meant. Even though it’s not a reoccurring injury, Hiller somehow managed to need surgery in the offseason. It won’t affect his play it just seems like he has terrible luck. If he was doing the Varlamov work-out, Hiller would have ended up with a concussion and a slipped disk just because of his luck.

Jeff Hackett actually had to retire because of vertigo in 2004.
