Still wondering how I would counter with one of my own, but I found this post pretty interesting. Good money spent at C and at D and G, clearly the most important positions. I think a solid backup might cost you more than 1M, but in a 3-year window maybe not (depending on the age of the goalie). This kind of exercise is fun bc it shows you where a certain person would allocate cash, versus another. You went real cheap on the wings at L3 and L4 and I wouldn't necessarily disagree with the philosophy, but I might cheap out at C4 to get an upgrade somewhere on the wing. Ideally, my C1 is like Crosby or Stamkos so I can justify throwing a 9 there, but if I can get away with 7.5 or 8 and redistribute that to get an elite W at 6.5 or so, I'm doing it. Sorta like a 1-2 punch combo a la Perry Getzlaf..
