Pavelec had been mediocre at best, and is making $4m. Why is he not bought out?
Montoya had been good, but has a minute ceiling and is a free agent.

Hutchinson was fantastic but over a very small sample size. RFA.

Chevaldayoff is playing this situation WAY too conservatively, and he won't do anything about it until the fans are ready to hang him.

I think they would be smart to sign one of the many UFA goalies available...personally think Hiller would fit in nicely in Winnipeg. No reason other than he will have something to prove to Anaheim for letting him go in favour of two relatively unproven, but highly touted tenders, Gibson and Andersen.

I have a feeling this has alot to do with Frolik and his current contract situation.. Pavelec and Frolik grew up in the same town and were childhood friends and I really think they enjoy playing together.. The Jets are in the middle of negotiations with Frolik, and I think if they bought out Pavelec right now Frolik would demand a trade.. Just a hunch!!

I totally understand what you mean, Pav has been brutal since his extension but you gotta think they haven't bought him out because theres no backup plan. Montoya walked, Hutchinson did play well down the stretch but doesn't have the strongest pedigree in his game. Comrie and Hellebuyck could be long term options.

Seemingly, you could buy out Pav, nobody signs as your #1 goalie and suddenly you're back to square one.

The forwards look decent, the D corp is solid, I don't think you can risk not having a serviceable goalie.

I realized today that Matt Hackett (RFA) is no longer exempt from waivers. That, combined with Neuvirth and Enroth, would mean Buffalo would have to do a lot of shifting to make room for Hiller.

Similarly, I don't think they'd want to accidentally win too many games and take themselves out of the top 3 picks next summer.

It wont be the Oilers. They seem quite happy with their tandem of Scrivens and Fasth.

As far as Winnipeg goes, I think they stick with Pavelec.

I've had the Jets as Hiller's landing spot since the Ducks made it clear he wouldn't be back. Figured the Jets would realize that Pav is the main reason they keep missing the playoffs and buy him out. Picked up Hutchinson because I felt he would be a decent backup for Hiller. So far its looking like I guessed wrong and that the Jets will stick with Pav and continue to have poor goaltending.

We'll see how Pavelec does after a year of Paul Maurice's system. Jets will be tighter defensively so we will see how this plays out.
At times he was spectaculer, other times below avg. We would just like him to be more consistent.
