Default {Re-Signing} Gustavsson stays with Detroit

Pretty predictable of this team. Doesn't matter how good a prospect is who is coming up, they'll still re-sign a veteran and force the kid to steal the job or just wait longer. So Petr Mrazek will wait another year, soak up some added AHL starts.

He's ready for a backup role. But another year can't hurt

Ya I saw this story floating yesterday along with the talk of them buying out Tootoo.

I think its a smart move by them. Give Mrazek a little more time.

Please be a cap number at $1.5m or less.
(league specific, axeman33 is in my league. It's a magical number, especially for back-up goalies)

    Sweed signing?

I guess the issue is getting the balance right between enough quality starts and not stagnating his development on a bench for a year... Another year in the A won't hurt him tbh

Kind of a trickle down effect, and maybe nobody cares, but I guess that means they're letting Tom McCollum walk? He was their 2008 1st round pick, had a pretty good season in the AHL but he's kind of stuck between Mrazek and Paterson going forward. Does he have a future in the NHL?

Nope. He's never getting there. Looking back at another similar guy, Joey MacDonald, at least he had consistency in the AHL. McCollum hasn't had that. He's been made irrelevant, at least for the Wings. Perhaps he sticks with it, goes over to Europe or whatever, and then comes back in five years or so and manages to land a backup role, but I think that's unlikely at best.

This is solid. He played ok for Detroit, I really like the idea of Mrazek getting some more AHL seasoning.

McCollum is UFA anyways. Has been for over a year as he only got an AHL-contract for last season. He has no future in NHL.

Oh wow I didn't even realize that! I picked him up in my sig league in about November. I'm glad I was able to sell him off in a package deal in February

    Done deal.

Wings and backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson agree on 1-year deal, Ken Holland confirms. No decrease in salary, so $1.5 million or higher.

I need to go pray to the fantasy hockey gods that his actual salary stays at $1.500m.

Pretty sure I read somewhere he re-upped for 1.5 again.

Smart move. Between Howard and Gus there will be an injury at some point, and Mrazek will get some games. But another year of 50+ in the AHL is good, and he can graduate full time next season.
