Good for Calgary but they have to lock him up or face watching him walk after paying a ransom to Ottawa. The story says he doesn't want to play in Canada

I think Florida is probably on his short list or perhaps Tampa
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Not a good move for Calgary IMO. Still a solid player but Calgary needs multiple assets in their rebuild. Acquiring Spezza and giving up multiple assets is not the direction they should be taking. The deal won't happen anyway, Spezza won't play in Calgary. Nice to see Calgary be bold but it's not the kind of move I personally think they should make.

Well that ain't happening. At his age, why would Spezza even consider a rebuilding team?

Unless the Flames are on his 10-team no-trade list, he doesn't have a choice where he gets traded.

I'm pretty sure the Calgary Flames know that Spezza wouldn't accept a trade to Calgary, but what better way for the Flames management to show their fans that they care and that they are trying to win going forward then by going after some big name players!!

I think I saw on a front page tweet that every Canadian club is on the 10 team list.

Spezza isnt foolish, he knows Ottawa would never trade him to Toronto or Montreal, so why make their fan bases mad at him aswell!!

isn't that what held them back as well though? Failing to off load kipper and iginla and admitting a re build and starting in earnest and hanging on to the thought that they could compete....

The Calgary Flames have reportedly made Ottawa an offer for Jason Spezza, according to league sources.
Jiri Hudler, Mikael Backlund and Dennis Wideman as well as second- or third-round picks have been mentioned, but Ottawa is looking for a top end top-six forward, a highly-ranked prospect and a No. 1 pick. Spezza also apparently doesn't want to play in Canada anymore and sources say the Flames, Canucks, Oilers and Jets are on his list of teams he doesn't want to be traded to. The Senators wouldn't deal him to Toronto or Montreal, but it's unclear if they are on his radar. Jun 14 - 5:04 PM

    This ^^^^^

is way too much to pay for a guy with a year left on his contract. On another note, how could this get as far as details if the Flames are one of the 10 teams on his no trade list.
