Crosby vs Seguin + Kopitar

Hi guys, in a Points only 10 team 6-keeper league would you think it will be a good trade to acquire Crosby for my Seguin + Kopitar.

We will have 2 expansions teams this year to put our league to 10 teams so we only protect 3 players for this year. After the expansions, we will have 6 players protected but we can lose 2 players. As for now, I will certainly lose Kopitar


The 3 players I currently protect are Stamkos, Seguin and Kessel

The guy who owns Crosby will protect : Crosby, Benn and (Kunitz or St-Louis)

So with that trade it will be Crosby, Stamkos and Kessel for me and Seguin, Benn and Kopitar for him.

I think we are both winners.

Do you think, it's a fair trade ?

Depends what your league's scoring settings are but at first glance, I personally don't like this trade for you.

In a keep 3, it still favours whoever owns Crosby. Course it's worth a try in this case to steal Crosby since you never know what the other guys is thinking.
edit: sorry it's a keep 6, I still do the deal to get Crosby. Kopitar is a 70pt player in my eyes and is replaceable if you can get Crosby.

OK... 10 teams, and the long-term strategy is Keep 6.

That's a "Keep 60" league.
In that type of league, since there are only 10 teams... the distribution will be a bit like this:

40 Forward Keepers
5 Defense Keepers
15 Goalie Keepers

(That's how I see it shaking out).

So... it's always a 2-for-2 trade.
Here, you are getting Crosby + Fringe Keeper Forward (i.e. Forward #41).
He is getting Kopitar + Seguin

Let's put some values on these:
Crosby = 105pts.
FringeF = 60pts (Typical NHL Forward #40)

Seguin = 85pts
Kopitar = 80pts

165pts (Crosby + F40)
165pts (Seguin + Kopitar)

I say "Take the Trade".
1. It's a level trade... but...
2. You will (over time) upgrade that fringe forward to a 65 or 70pt player with tactful moves (i.e. "smarts")... that brings that side up to 170 or 175pts.
3. For the upcoming Keep3, you are losing value in an asset if you have to cut Kopitar.

With expansion... take Crosby - it is the smart thing for the upcoming league format.

For me it's Crosby by a landslide in a limited keeper. I really don't think it's close at all.

If you'd lose Kopitar to expansion anyways, then logically you're trading Seguin for Crosby. Seems like a no-brainer to me!

Yea, the deal is obviously Crosby for the two, but for you you're just trading Crosby for Seguin. Considering it is really a keep three this year, you always want to have the best 3. You obviously take Crosby over Seguin, so the Kopitar add is irrelevant. Easy win.

As a Crosby owner, I'm going to play devil's advocate. In a limited keeper, if I know you're gonna drop Kopitar anways, then why in God's name would I make this trade? I'd be waiting until AFTER everyone drops 3, and then trade Crosby, if I EVER trade him. That way, I get to keep kunitz/st.louis and get seguin/kopitar or an equivalent later for Sid. What's your backup plan if (or, more realistically, WHEN) he says no?

This is a valid point. I think most of us (I certainly am) are commenting under the impression that the other GM has already agreed to the deal and the OP wants to know if he should click accept too. That was the impression I got from the OP.

IF this thread is a "do you think he will take it/is this enough?" type of thing, then I agree with Feadur. I don't see any way the other GM clicks accept. I personally would easily prefer

Crosby-Benn-Kunitz

over

Benn-Seguin-Kopitar

So I guess I revise my answer to yes you should do this if he has already agreed, no I do not think it is nearly enough if it is something you are thinking of proposing.
