    That settles the Halak/Poulin tandem.

Poulin will be in the AHL. He is not NHL ready and needs playing time. Nabakov, or anyone else, makes more sense.

    How long is Nilsson's contract?

I was still holding out hope we would be in the NHL this year some way or another. Maybe his contract has an out clause that if he signs and NHL contract he can get out of this KHL one. I am really reaching now.

    Havent seen the details yet.

And I will be surprised if the Islanders dont use Poulin as the backup. His contract is due and I can see him getting a cheaper 1 way deal to backup Halak. They wont let him go and I doubt he goes back to the AHL. Time will tell I guess but thats my opinion.

Too bad to see a young goalie with some nice potential leave, but it happens all the time.

I still wouldn't totally write Nilsson off....he struggled a bit with the Isles but definitely showed some flashes of what he could be.

Coming off his good World Championship I thought maybe he would have convinced either the Islanders to give him a one year deal or another team to trade for his rights.

They might have rolled with Nilsson as a back-up, but I think the chances that Poulin is in Bridgeport is right around 99.9%

Smart of Nilsson to take what is probably a much sweeter financial deal along with a starting role at this point in his career.

so thats 2 wasted picks on tall goaltenders by snow at the same draft. - mikko koskinen , anders nilsson .

islanders could have drafted ryan o'reilly with the pick used on mikko .

they still have mikko's nhl rights until he's 27

It was a strategy so the franchise can distract you from the Dipietro gaff.

gotta think the isles will qualify nilsson too to retain his rights. i don't think this is thatbad of a deal for the isles... nilsson wasn't going to start on the island. he may have been a back-up, though I'm not sure he was even ready for that gig. in the khl he will play a lot and improve (ideally) while remaining property of the isles. the only poor decision the isles made with nilsson (and poulin) was feeding them to the wolves this year on a team that bled goals due to lack of coaching and commitment to defense.

You are probably right about the money. A guy like this might be able to set himself up for life with a decent KHL contract or risk it all for AHL money with the chance of an NHL jackpot. Can't say I blame him. Still, my fantasy league doesn't give KHL points.
