Default Most predictable NHL awards in recent memory

Seems to me like most of the main awards have clear winners this year.

    Hart - Crosby
    Norris - Keith
    Vezina - Rask
    Calder - Mackinnon

    Agree or disagree?

The only one I question is Keith. Should he win? Probably... Will he win?? Unlikely. Considering they simply look at offensive numbers these days for that award, you may as well put Karlsson's name on it again this year. I dont think he's the best defenceman in the league and doesn't deserve the Top Defenseman Award, but I have been feeling that way the past few years and thats the way its been rolling.

And this year, I actually get a vote (member of the PHWA). So you have my votes.

Believe it or not, Hedman would actually give Keith a run for his money if he didn't miss seven games. Think about it - he'd have 57 points and be plus-8 on a team that really needed his help to get into the playoffs (Chicago would make them with or without Keith). I don't think anyone is talking about Hedman

    Great topic, Rep for you

Not with plus/minus and playoff factors. Karlsson wouldn't get in my Top 3 (and yes, woo hoo! I get a vote)

only the Hart is unanimous (Crosby) right now imo, maybe Calder.

Norris will always be very close when you have guys like keith, weber, chara, suter etc. not too sure who will win this year, haven't paid too much attention to D.

Vezina top two favorites should be Rask/Varlamov, I'd go with the latter.

Calder is gonna be Mackinnon followed closely by Palat.

I don't think Karlsson or even Weber deserve the Norris because their teams missed the playoffs and they are both minus players on the year.

Hedman "should" deserve recognition, I agree.

Giordano has been terrific and also deserves recognition, but likely won't get much because his team didn't make the playoffs. I still can't believe that he is currently +13 on that team!

Chara will get votes, but is so far behind Keith in points that I don't believe he deserves serious recognition. A nomination would be good enough to recognize his strong season.

Hey, I totally agree with you but the past 2 winners (PK and EK) were nothing spectacular on the +/- front in their winning years. They were both +'s but neither were anything great, they both just had fantastic offensive years.

I know you agree with me

But my point is - you are saying that voters look at offense only. I'm a voter, and I'm telling you different

I think Keith is the perfect mix of good defensive work and offensive output.

When Karlsson won the Norris, there was a big gap in points between him and the next defencemen. Not the case this year.

I am saying that the offensive numbers seem to be the primary stat when they are considering who to vote for. I really wonder how much they take all the other things into consideration.

You may look at things like then when you place your vote, but I am skeptical that others will.

Agree but Varlamov could sneak in for the Vezina. 40Ws goes a long way.

Who gets the Lady Bing? Séguin?

Selke? They could almost hand out 10 of them. Pavelski? He spent lots of the season anchoring 3rd lines and moving around the lineup to play both ends of the ice... Plekanec is likely the best top 6 forward who played the most SH... Kesler? Even Getzlaf played over 2 mins per game on the PK..

When you have a largely ill-informed and biased voting populace, nothing is guaranteed... nor particularly meaningful.

as a leafs fan it pains me to say selke is bergeron's, that bastard is so good defensively. that being said i don't watch the west as much so perhaps guys like toews, pavelski etc could win it.

I agree that the Lady Bing and Selke are tougher (aren't they always?). Those two awards in a way are the ones that are most voted on "intangibles". Other than low penalty minutes, the voters can't necessarily look at stats when making those decisions.

Ryan O'Reilly should get consideration for the Lady Bing. Only one minor penalty all year, and 63 pts.
