Smells like Roy wants to preserve his single season win record with the Avs
That and he wants his top dog to be fully rested for the playoffs!
I know the plan was originally to have Giggy play Edmonton, Berra play San Jose, leaving Varly to get 2 games this week. Sounds like Varly may be getting a bit more rest this week and only playing Thursday, which sucks for those of use relying on him in our finals.

Going in, Roy's tentative plan is to rest goaltender Semyon Varlamov in the final two games. Varlamov on Monday was named the NHL's second star for the week of games ending Sunday. Varlamov was 3-0-1 in the league's week, with a .950 save percentage and a 1.42 goals-against average.
Roy's plan is to go with Reto Berra in the net against San Jose and Jean-Sebastien Giguere against Anaheim. If Giguere, as expected, retires after this season, it would be a nice touch for his final game to be at Anaheim, where he won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the league's playoff MVP in 2003 (the Ducks lost to New Jersey in the Finals), then helped the Ducks win the Stanley Cup in 2007.
