What are your thoughts on Niskanen in a keeper league? Do you think he will produce similar numbers going forward? I know is in a contract year and Letang was out most of this season so I guess I should expect numbers similar to past years?

Niskanen have no contract with Pittsburg next year. If the guy want more cash, I don't think Pittsburg will have enough to give so the guy will leave in the UFA this summer IMO. I don't expect him to score the same amount of points next year !

This year he has played more games than any year in his career he's also produced double point output than any single season he's played. You cannot expect this to be the norm for him. It's also his contract year. No idea where he plays next year but he surely won't score 45 points again IMO.

With the questions to Letang and Martin's health I think the Penguins will resign Niskanen. He has proved that he can be an offensive dman in the NHL. For next season's point production it will all depend on the ice time that he will get and the health of Letang and Martin. Look for him to have a decent season next year but not as good as this one.

Niskanen is a decent offensive DMan but he produced a bit over his head this year. If he stays in Pittsburgh, he'll be competing with a healthy Letang and Martin plus Maatta will get more burn. Long-term, Pouliot is waiting to step in and take an offensive role as well. I think Niskanen is more of a 32-40 guy regardless of where he ends up.

I concur. The stars aligned for Nisk this year but will that happen again? A good D man but not tier one. He's nice insurance for the Pens but if he asks for a truck load of money I think he's down the road. Where he ends up and in what role remains to be seen, but I'd pencil him in for 35 and be very happy if he exceeds that.

If he signs a long term deal I'll be interested to see if they consider moving Letang. They've looked comfortable with Niskanen on the PP, which creates a weird situation (you can't justify Letang and that contract on PP2)
I once traded Henrik Lundqvist and Ilya Kovalchuk in return for Peter Budaj and Henrik Zetterberg… have lived in shame ever since.
