Hello all,
I have a bit of a defenseman dilemma in my 16 team Keeper league (not in sig) Keep 2 at each position plus 1 goalie
Current keepers are:
C: Crosby Bergeron
LW: Couture, O'Reilly
RW: Backes, Skinner (or maybe Hornqvist)
G: Fleury (or maybe Schneider)
D options: Pietrangelo (no brainer), Letang, Markov, Josi
League stats are changing next year to include hits making the scoring categories: G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, SOG, Hits, FOW
It was a simple decision before Letang's stroke, now I'm wondering if I go with a safer option in Josi who has had a stellar second half and is more durable. And there's the Markov option too although his injury history scares me too.
What are your thoguhts on who the best D to keep are?

I would say Letang still. I think he will return next year without missing a "beat"...
There is risk, but but he is so much better then Markov and Jossi that its worth the risk IMO.

I'm not so sure about this reasoning......when Letang is healthy, he is elite. I don't think a Josi has nearly enough upside to drop a 60+ point d-man. If you drop Letang, you will make the owner that scoops him in the redraft extremely happy. You could likely redraft Josi easily.....he's been off an on my waiver wire all season.Originally Posted by Shake

Reasoning?? I'm not reasoning. I gave him my opinion.
Letang has not had a full healthy season in three years. He can be elite, sure. Like you said " when he is healthy" That's the issue.
How certain are you without question he comes back and no health issues will exist? You a 100% sure?
I guess I don't want to rely on " When he's healthy" mentality.
I don't question his ability. But his durability is absolutely in question and certainly suggesting Piets and Josi as his keepers is not a ridiculous suggestion.

Thanks for the feedback guys. These two viewpoints are basically the same ones I am struggling with right now. I agree that Josi is likely more draftable than Letang. I'll have to think some more about this. Thanks and please continue the discussion.

I've got Letang and AP here. Although as mentioned above a breaking through Josi and a questionable Letang makes the choice between the two difficult.

This is an all too common dilemma in fantasy hockey, what to do with a guy who has health issues. However, let's use Crosby as an example. Clearly elite and before this year major health concerns. Same situation now for Letang. What has Sid done this year? For those who "weathered the storm" well, Sid is back! I think you have to take the same approach with Letang. He is obviously one of the most desirable owns on the blue line, I'd suggest you "weather the storm".

When is the deadline for your protections. The longer you can wait the better chance to see if Letang comes back from playoffs.
If Letang plays he will be gold next year, and I think that if he plays it will be because he is healthy enough to play.
you have a better chance to redraft a Josi type player, rather than a Letang.
