You could put crappy defensemen with Karlsson, and i would still take that group. When you add in OEL and Subban, there is no other choice.

Group one by a long shot. Karlsson AND Subban? Yes please. OEL isn't too shabby either in that format.
10 team, head-to-head, multi-cat, keep-12 keeper league. CATS: G,A,+/-,PPP,PIM,SOG,HITS BS,SHP, W,SV,SV%,GAA,SO Daily rosters of 6F, 4D, 2 Flex, 2G
F: Crosby, Hall, Pacioretty, Hartnell, Neal, Nugent-Hopkins, Callahan, Dubinsky, Hossa, Huberdeau, Abdelkader, Bjugstad (IR)
D: Karlsson, Hedman, Muzzin, Savard, Streit (IR)
G: Lundqvist, Quick, Condon
Also this. Group Karlsson could be paired with Stuart, Belov, and Fraser and I would still take his group. D is a volatile position, and every year there are guys that come out of no where to put up 40+ points. Give me the one dman in the league that has the potential to put up 80+ points, and I'll find diamonds in the rough to fill out my roster.
In this case OEL and Subban (who could be argued as being #2 in this format) makes it a no-brainer.

It is tough to look at a teams positional depth in isolation without looking at the remainder of the roster. The fact that Team 1 has an embarrassment of riches on D tells me that it is likely weak (read weaker) in F and G. Therefore, tough to say as a whole which team is best.
That said, since this is about just choosing the best D - as others have said, its a no contest. Team 1 by a long shot, with Team 2 being the only other team with a legit outside chance of dethroning Team 1 that too, only if Karlsson gets hurt and misses extended time. Otherwise, I would take that D roster of Team 1, put it in a bank locker and keep cashing it year after year for the foreseeable future.

"Cleavage is like the sun. You can look, but dont stare.. Unless you're wearing sunglasses."
Of note though... with group #2... when Buff is playing RW... he's not blocking shots.
A defensemen that isn't contributing in a category can hurt in those formats.
I have two leagues that count BLK... and I find I fall behind in that category if I roster Buff or Burns in a D-slot... because they aren't getting BLK as a forward.
Just a note.
Brent Burns, as a 50pt scorer in a D-slot, has been awesome.
But I'm not exactly seeing a spike in either shooting or scoring from Buff playing forward. (Better for the Jets overall game maybe... but not necessarily for Buff's fantasy stats).
Around Jan 10th, Buff was moved to forward.
You can see an obvious decline in his BLK per game since that move.
Have the other stats really improved by shifting to forward... I don't know... I don't see it.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/3705/gamelog/
For that reason, I'd argue that Buff is now "overrated" in a D-slot of leagues counting BLK.
I'd actually love a comparison of:
Buff's first 30 NHL games this season... as a D
vs.
Buff's last 30 NHL games this season... as a RW
Interesting... project anybody?
Byfuglien
First 30: 6 goals, 16 assists, -11, 38 Pims, 4 PPG, 53 Hits, 50 Blocks
Last 30: 10 goals, 11 assists, -3, 32 Pims, 3 PPG, 117 Hits, 9 Blocks
In my league his last 30 have been worth about 25% more than his first 30 games.
yes indeed. number one and two respectively. I really didn't look past number 4 to be honest.
Hockey Pools? Too many to mention. Points only, salary cap and dynasty.
