This year its obviously Granlund, as he has put together quite the season.. Long term I am going to have to take Huberdeau.. Huberdeau is in his sophomore season, so im not selling him short anytime soon..

I think this is likely the most common scenario to be. Many Granlund owners finding it difficult to trade him for Huberdeau and Huberdeau owners finding it just as hard to trade him for Granlund. To me, it suggests that their potential and likely production will be somewhat close, so much so that it might be a wash..

Two really great prospects. Soon, I'm sure Roos will subject them to a cage match..

Actually some Wild fans are calling him "Grandalf", even better nickname!

Huberdeau from watching him nearly every single game has made a huge step in the wrong direction. At first my guess was that his injury in the offseason has kept him from getting into the mode. But he had already regressed at the second part of last season. The others teams had figured him out very fast and he still sticks to the fancy part of the game. He floats a lot and doesn´t backcheck at all which worries me a lot. If he doesn´t bulk up a lot or change his game dramatically he looks like a bust in my eyes. I have experienced quite a few sophomore slumps and he scares me more than others.

Huberdeau has been so disappointing so far in his short career, but the ceiling is so high. We were calling him the next Eric Staal a few years back. Granlund has had an amazing year but has been hot and cold. I think for next season Granlund is your guy, but after that I would take the future captain of the, soon to be serious, florida panthers.

As much as i love to hear from other non Panthers fans that our team will be serious. And as much as i hope you are right with Huby. The future captain was already declared several times by the owners and Tallon in Gudbranson.

Yeah if I were you I would keep both depending on the situation. Is this a question of keepers for next year or a trade/waiver pick up?

Nothing is certain, regardless of whether he is the captain or not, I still take him over Granlund. Im not a Panthers fan but i get the feeling they're not as far as everybody thinks

I just traded for Huberdeau, so I'm officially interested in this discussion. I didn't give up that much for him, but the harder part is finding a way to keep him in a 10 player keep 12 league. Reading this:

is pretty depressing. What do you know about his concussion? Do you think they'll just shut him down until next season?
10 team pts-only keeper league - keep 10 plus 10 from past/present farm. No bench: entire active roster counts. Goalies: 2 pts/win + 3/shutout. 82 adds / year. NHL playoffs count for separate prize.

I wouldn´t be too worried about the conussion. I think they will roll the worst roster possible to beat the Oilers for #2. Thats includes resting Huby. The more risky part about his career is the hip surgery he had in the offseason which he hasn´t recovered from and is usually a surgery most guys never get to 100% again.

As i agree with the Panthers being a team to watch i stick to my opinion that Huby is less certrain and more risky than most people believe. I swap him for a similar prospect if i had the chance to. There were also already rumors ( i think Frozen Pond( Panthers blog) reported) that Tallon wants to go after E.Kane this offseason with Huby as part of the deal.

Call me crazy, but I don't think you'd actually prefer Huberdeau...

Based on a 3-year timeframe, I'd probably roll the dice on Granlund. I don't see the "upside" numbers being very relevant for guys this young. And Florida is just such a gong show right now. So I'd go with Granlund, just because I like his situation better over a 3-year period. If the outlook was longer, though, I'd likely flip and go with Huberdeau's higher upside.
